Quint-  I'm not looking for a 1/2 helmet this time around.  I rode with a beanie since they enacted the helmet law here almost 20 years ago.  After the head trauma I consider myself pretty lucky.  I'm planning on trying some 3/4 and full face helmets this weekend.  It will be a big adjustment but one I'll have to get used to.

I had to make the same adjustment after my accident.  Funny how are perspective changes after the fact (if we're that fortunate).  I went to a full  face (flip face) and it took about two weeks to adjust to it.  Now, when I go to a state that doesn't have a helmet law and try to ride with it off, it feels like I just took all my clothes off......very vulnerable feeling.

I couldnt agree with you more about perspective.  Previous to the accident I would have said it would never happen to me.  As good as your riding skills are and/or are aware of whats going on around you sometimes things are out of your control.  I will say that the beanie must have been better than nothing.  It broke into large pieces.  I imagine with a dot, whether full or 3/4 the injuries could have been lessened.  As far as the old noggin goes I ended up with a fractured skull, bleeding in the brain, and a ruptured ear drum.
