S&S 570G's?
« on: November 14, 2007, 10:29:09 AM »

Has anyone installed S&S 570G cams?  If so how did you like them?  Appreciate the responses.

Speedneed,

Welcome to the sight! You might want to go New Member Introduction area and write an introductory post for the forum when you get a chance. I don't use the S&S 570G cams, but if you let the group know what year and model your bike is, and what mods, if any have been done, I am sure someone in the group can give you some informed feedback.

Thanks Tom.  I have already posted in the intro section.

The cams will be going into an 06 Ultra SE.  Typically two up, loaded in both the saddlebags, tourpack and a bag on the luggage rack.  I pretty much only use this bike for out of town trips. It rarely sees any action past 4500 rpm so I'm looking for torque gaines primarily between 2k to 4.5k rpm.  To date the mechanical mods include a Thunderheader, K & N AC, a race tuner with dyno tuning.  I realize I will be dyno tuning again with the installation of new cams/pushrods.  I've had good results with both Andrews and S & S cams in the past but dont have any first hand experience with the twin cam motors.  FYI, these are also gear drive cams.  At this time I'm not interested in head work or piston compression changes.  I'll address that when its time for a top end.

Just to offer an alternative........Take a look at my signature.  Those R&R 525s are torque monsters for my SEUC. Passing is effortless now.........don't have to downshift..........just roll-on and she jumps.

speedneed. without headwork, or getting your compression up, the 570 cams are gonna hurt you. and if you do get those done, your power curve is gonna be in mid-upper. from what i think you are wanting to accomplish, something wit h an earlier close sounds better.

maybe a tw26 or woods tw6? or as henry stated, the 525 rr cams, which really shine in the area you say you want power.

Speedneed,

Lots of members have used Zippers 575 gear drive cams or Freedom YB14 SEC gear drive cams. They are both bolt in cams for the 103 motor and require no headwork. I have read that all who have changed to either of these cams have been satisfied.

in the specific range your looking the zippers cam will come in sooner and run the range your asking for.   The freedom will come in slightly later.

neither of these cams require headwork.

require and want are two different things. why would you go through the troble without headwork-------you got the rocker supports off to change pushrods, its only 4 bolts per haed away from doing it right!

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.  Match 'em up.  Go faster, longer.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the input from everyone.  I'm going to have to think the cams over a little and see which ones I'll go with.

Head work?  A bit more work than just swapping cams.  I suppose if I was performing head work I may as well pull the cylinders.. pistons are just another step away.. but wait, with the top end apart.. perhaps I should split the cases...and with the motor out...6 speed?  sheesh  while the trannys out....

That has got me in to trouble with the 69 about...errrr... more times than I should say. "sure, let me just change this out".

This is actually my first new bike.  Plenty of mods to the other ones.   I could easily tell you that my generator shovel is much quicker than the ultra.  I'm certain a lot of that has to do with weight.  I actually prefer to ride it in town.  I appreciate the advice Red.  Who knows.. maybe thats where I'll end up.

I still would appreciate any input from anyone who has installed the S&S cams.  I'm not disregarding Red's advice,  I'm going to look into his recomendations as well.
