saddle bag spoiler light's
« on: March 15, 2005, 09:02:48 PM »

I had my dealer install saddle bag spoiler light's , my question is how did You or Your installer run the wire's?The dealer ran the wires on the inside of the bags ,drilled a hole about even with the shock and then ran the wire under the seat.He now wants to use the same wire clips he used on the inside to run the wires from the shock to the front of the bags on the outside of the bag to hide the wire[back side of saddle bags].I told him I would have prefered him to run the wire from inside the bag, to the front of the bag on the inside and  drill a hole and run the wire straight over to the battery. Now my only fix is to put a gromet  in too plug the hole .Any feedback would be great.

This second image shows where the harness connector ended up tied off just forward of the shock.   Considering where the harness meets the connector it really didn't seem like there was any other "good" choice as to how to run things.

To protect the harness when abusively shoving things into and then pulling them back out of the saddlebag and to clean up the appearance of things the inside of the bag is also lined with this saddlebag liner:

In case that link doesn't work it's J&P part number 830-120.

Glad the pics could help.  Sometimes a photo really is worth 10 or 12 words.

The way twolanerider did it is the way I did it on my road king. I put a piece of black duct tape over the wire so the bag liner did'nt catch on it when being pulled out. then used grometsin the holes. Will do the same when my SEEG comes. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I thought about duct tape.  Really thought about it hard too.  Couldn't find a "hard" liner like the one for the tour pak.  Then found the fabric liners in the Chrome Specialties catalog and they were "only" 90 bucks.  Figured when we're already nuts enough to spend 30k for a bike and then spend more to put spoiler lights on it; what's another 90 bucks  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

This is the velcro beading you put along the top of the saddlebag to hold it in place:
