Go for it. I only have 9.5 years to retire  :2vrolijk_21:, Time to find a final spot.

But why do you want to go north?

Duane...that's not really "North" by much.  That area of NC, and also TN, doesn't get a great deal of snow.  If it snows, it generally will be gone in a few days, except at elevations above 3 or 4K.  I've hiked in snow up in that part of the country up to my waist, but that is unusual, and only happens on rare occasions.  Usually, it will snow a few inches, be pretty a couple of days, then melt off/rain.  Generally, only the North faces of the mountains up there will maintain some snow in the woods in Jan/Feb.  The roads generally clear very quickly.

Someday I would really like to find a great area in the south to live and ride anytime of the year. For the last two years I have been looking for a second or future retirement home and seriously considering TN because of State taxes in NC vs. TN.
I would be interested in a couple of years.

Tha real question is,
Are you ready for a neighbor like Hubbard?

 :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

I'm sure with the proper covenants there won't be a problem!

Miker

I'm thinking 09 will be the time.
Somewhere along the BRP in NC.
A PSED (Planned Screaming Eagle Development) known as "EAGLE'S CREST"
A community of 1700 to 1900 square foot houses w/2 car garages attached and with 900' (30x30) to 1600' (40x40) detached garages.
A community of 15 to 18 homes built with the progressive CVO rider in mind. Approved exteriors to be stone, brick, and Hardi plank or an approved combination of the above. The common area will include a 40'x40' shelter (with BBQ pit) for informal gatherings. Spectacular mountain range views available from the rear of each lot.

"Eagles Crest"
Laurel Springs, NC  27516
SBB LLC Development Inc.

Are you in?

Well?  :nixweiss:

***************************************************************************************

Hey Chip,  if you're goin' to do this development, HURRY UP!  After 36 years of teaching Judy is planning on retiring next year and I'll be about three years behind her!

We have be up in western NC two weekends in the last two months looking at property.  Based on property values, the real estate market in that area is still pretty strong!  If ya know what I mean.....

Could it be an enclave for aholes?  A little Aholia!  I'd bring my widow maker out of storage and let you crazy sobs ride the dickens outta it.  750cc 2 stroke kawi mark III, it scared me off years ago.  very fast, poor brakes a flexi chassis...

I knew there was something crazy about you.  ;)

I had a 500 H1, bored to 587cc with K&N filters and Wirges expansion chambers.
That was my second bike. It was a blast! Dangerous, fast, no handling blast.

That does sound nice my only concern would be I don't much care for cold/snow. What's the weather like there in dead of winter? My dream home location would be to have all four seasons (w/o snow or snow that sticks to road that chemicals have to be applied), great roads to ride (mountains/curves/etc), and be close to beach (3 +/- hours). You know of a location like that?

Gary, you're talking about Sacramento.  Ride year around, two hours to the ocean and a half hour from the mountains with plenty of motorcycle roads in either direction.  That's why Hoist has a real estate agent shopping for him out here.

So, Chip, you'll have to do a western version of the Eagles Crest for those who don't care for all the rain and hurricanes, either. :2vrolijk_21:

Which state is cheaper to live in?

I was thinking of buying a vineyard when I leave gods waiting room, but NC sounds nice too.
Maybe I'll open a bar there.

TN and WV do not tax the military retirement check.  With the lower cost of living and the benefit of a bigger check, we are looking hard at TN and WV in about five years.

I'm with Naitram on the wildfires, mudslides and earth quakes. "Youse" guys can keep them.
The right coast (or close) is the place to be, the left coast is just that, what's left.
Ask Spiderman, he will come to his senses soon and move back to God's country.
There is no rain anymore and on the Hurricanes, just keep Harry in Florida and the high winds will not be a problem.
Miker as for the vineyards, I have a connection at www.Sheltonvineyards.com and have a standing room at the Hamton Inn across from the Vineyard so if it's wine you want, skip the cheese cause I can deliver you cases of the juice.

Do a search, Laurel Springs, NC 27516 is on the edge of paradise. And the BRP is within sight of the property.
Mile post 248 is close to the middle of the BRP. Once we get ours and Naitrams home built (if he wants one) then fun times will begin.

09
Should be a good year!
