Henry, a couple of things come to mind

1 was the tank properly backfilled when installed

2 is the water level rising which is causing the tank to rise

It will not hurt the tank at all to be covered with fill. Just remember that you have to dig the cover up every so often to replace the filter.

They even make extensions for the access ports, so you can add as much fill on it as you want. When the extensions are installed it is a PITA to get into the tank to change the filter.

1.  No idea, Brian.  I was on the road when they buried it.
2.  I don't think so.  Engineered mounds are pretty much standard fare in rural new construction throughout Madison County.  Those green access panels are visible on everyone's tank.  I'm not worried about them...........to much, however Renea did chop one to bits-n-pieces with the ZTR mower this summer........deck was too low.  What does concern me is I can see the outline of the tank, and it looks ugly.  I just don't want to mess anything up.  I think I should be safe with a mixture of sand and topsoil around the tank just to blend it in with the rest of the terrain.

The tank rising or soil around it settling is the least of your worries, your house is built on a toxic waste dump......

I've had the same septic system for 15 years now.  Settling of the ground and browning over the tank is normal.  Backfill it, reseed it and all is well.  Make sure only biodegradable products are flushed however.  I had a wife and daughter disposing of their hygiene products inappropriately.  I found out the hard way.  What a mess.  I explained that EVERYTHING that goes down the drain or toilet in this house ends up in our back yard.  They got the point from the shear embarrassment.

Agreed GJ. I've seen bunches of trenches and bunches of dug holes and they all settle, some sooner than others. And the brown is what we got until we just planted a bunch of flowers over it. Nature of the beast.

It is?   :nixweiss:  Gee, and all this time I thought it was built in a 100 year old cotton field.  I learn something new everyday.

yup, the degradation byproducts of 100 year old cotton fields are PCPs, Dioxins, DDT, and SARIN.  Developer didn't tell you that did he?

Nosir!   :nixweiss:  Sure didn't.  I reckon I'll have to sell the joint at a loss and move.  Would want to poison my family, you know.  I was wondering why the Boxers' fur is falling out, they foam at the mouth, and display tics which mimic those of Turette Syndrome.   :o
