need GPS unit-which one?
« on: November 15, 2007, 11:12:44 PM »

Looking for a GPS unit for my bike. Does anyone have any recommendations? I want a unit that I can move from one bike to another if I want or my truck. Good graphics is a plus too. Thanks.

Lately many here have purchased the Garmin Zumo and are pleased w/them. Several threads already existing about them you may want to try searching for "Zumo" to see what has been said already.

Dewd..........get the ZUMO 550.  You won't regret it.  Ask FireD00d what you'll need.  That man has the entire ZUMO gamut stored in his bionic fingers!   :huepfenjump3:

Most that have after market GPS units on this site have them on an EG or UC.  The Zumo has other features that work with the stereo systems on these bikes.  Since you SERK has no stereo this may be an overkill.  Go to a place like Best Buy and look at all of them (TomTom, Garmin, Magellan).  You'll find the features that work best for your use.

Oh yeah, the SERK doesn't have a cigarette lighter power source.  You'll have to consider how to get continuous power to the unit.

Get the Zumo 550, you won't regret it.  It is waterproof, and designed to be used on a motorcycle along with other GPS features.

Whatever you decide to buy be sure it is waterproof.  I have the Garmin 2720 and I like it OK.  I know how to work it, MP3 would be nice though as mine doesn't have this feature.  The Zumo is the newer version and is a motorcycle friendly unit.  You can better program it with gloves on (Bigger Buttons)....

You might want to do a e-bay search as you might be able to pick up a deal, BUT WATERPROOF is the key...

good luck

Garmin Streetpilot 2730.........has XM radio and satellite weather, also.  I use it on my bike, in the car and in my truck.  The prices have came down considerably since I bought mine a year ago.  If you don't have XM this is the unit that you want.

With all due respect because the Serk does not have a stereo is one of the reasons I bought a Zumo. You can download your music to it and have a gps and "stereo" all in one. The Serk also has two aux switches, one of which can be used for the Zumo. imho, jj.

Zumo 550 is the way to go.  Very easy to see and use. Get  a chrome bracket from Tech mount and it is aclean look. Try Costco  I think on line they sell the 550 at the lowest  price. Billy

Someone else suggested PCNation.com and after checking they had it for less than Costco.  That may have changed by now.

When I purchased my Zumo the cheapest I found was at PCNation. I used Bizrate.com to search for the cheapest price and it led me to PCNation.
