Radio reception  cure
« on: March 20, 2005, 08:18:59 PM »

With the tour pack on the radio reception was really bad until I found the problem. The adapter running through the antenna mount was installed to low on the mount. I loosened the bottom nut and ran it as far down on the threads as possible then ran the top nut down and retightened it. This raised the threaded portion with the stud sticking out of the top. Now when I install  the cable adapter onto the mount ,the cable adapter actually cantacts the center stud its mounted over completing the circut to the antenna mounted on the tour pack.

Notice the space between the bottom of the cable adapter and the top lock nut on the mount . The adapter is now tightening down on the internal stud now completing the antenna circut and not on top of this external lock nut the way it was.

I hope this explanation is not as confusing as it sounds to me. But the bottom line is Harley had this adjusted wrong and I thought it was the radio.

DavidB,

Not sure how you stumbled on the cure, but thanks for sharing the tip.  Adjusted mine (took all of 2 minutes) and now I receive clearly many more than two stations and even bring in the weather broadcasts now.  Thanks a ton!! [smiley=laugh.gif]

Thanks, Dave. Can you post a pic of where your chrome bracket is mounted in relation to the Tourpak and license plate?  Trying to see if I did it right.     Didn't seem to have enuff cable...

thanks,
