Stock Height Rear Suspension 04 FLHTCSE
« on: November 26, 2007, 11:21:00 PM »

Have looked through previous posts in regards to rear Progessive Suspension, am leaning to the 440s as had the 412s on the old Road Gldie, saw mention of 11", 11.5, 12" and some 13".

I see in the specs the stock seat height is 26.5" is this lower than stock Classics or ULTRAS and what would be the apprporiate height rear shock, 11", 11.5" or the 12"?

Thanks in advance,

12" is stock for a SEEG.  13" for a stock Classic or Ultra.  With the front suspension on a SEEG also being 1" shortened, I can't recall anyone going all the way up to a 13" Progressive, but some have gone with 12.5"-ers.

I think it makes a difference if you go with the standard or HD 440, too.  For example, JR is running 12.5" standard spring 440s on his 'nana and I have 12" HDs.  His bike actually sits like 3/8" lower than my bike, which leads me to the conclusion there is more sag with the standard springs.

Some guys have recently switched to Bitubos here, so if it's the Progressives you're set on, you may be able to pick up a set on the cheap. :nixweiss:

Brian, you rode mine for a bit at Hot Springs.  It's got the 12.5" heavies on the back.  Was it enough difference that you could even notice it?

I need this info re-run too.  I think mine is going straight to Traxxion for fronts and rears.  (thanks Don)

I had the 12" HD's on mine and swaped them out for the standards. For my weight and riding solo most all of the time the HD's were to stiff and the rebound was very abrupt. I like the standards much better. If your 200#'s or less and ride solo most of the time go with the standard springs.

Not a problem Rog.  Always just trying to be helpful.  However.....

Enough of this 'nana nonsense.  Lets get down to what's really important.  By some method you'll get the bike to Georgia.  It now sounds like you'll then have it shipped to its hew home from Georgia.  Since you're not making the trailer in tow trip to pick it up; where the hell is my tool box?

I'm running the std 440's and they are 12.5"..  I weigh 215#'s and are set at 7 turns.  I have never had any rebound clunk.  Have the AK20's on the front and no more clunk on the front when the std forks would bottom out easily on hard bumps.  Hope this helps.

To me, the suspension upgrade costs were much more useable to me than a different exhaust.  It all depends on how you want to spend your money.

Again, thanks to Terry and Don for finding Traxxion in the 1st place.

If anyone is going to the Bitubos and wants to keep the stock suspension height, you'd want the 300mm shock.  The other one, to get the rear end up to the Ultra height is 330mm.

Rog...Traxxion can do the front end either way.

Thanks all, I really don't think I'd ride much if I didn't make the swap to Trax stuff after having it on the SEUC.

Don, the tool box is in a bunker somewhere in the midwest in order to avoid detection.

Has anyone with a SEEG tried going with the stock height in back (300 Bitubos) and raised the front back up 1" with the Traxxion cartridges? After riding a buddies Street Glide I like the handling characteristics better with the 12" rear and higher front end than on my SEEG with the 12" rear and lowered front end.

Front higher than rear is not a problem, if it's not too much.  3/4" - 1" is no problem. The bike is not going to sag much with the Traxxion and Bitubos adjusted properly, so the net effect is more ground clearance.

Where are we on Bitubos vs Progressive 440's?
