Powdercoat, then machine work?
« on: December 03, 2007, 05:34:18 PM »

Have a set of heads that are going to be powdercoated, diamond cut,  machined, and thermal coated.

In what order would you do these in, and without toooo much bull, why in that order.

Powder coating first.

Final machine work and diamond cutting can be done in either order.

Because that's what machine shops have told me having done it twice now.

Aren't all motors powdercoated, polished, or chromed? :confused5:

Red powdercoat will make it run faster :apple: .

Actually....  According to the coaters (and other seemingly reputable sources of info that I could find) there'll be very little difference.  The parts are powdercoated to begin with.  The new color is in place of whatever was there; not on top of it.  The coaters might apply a slightly thicker coat than the factory does.  But it's a negligible differernce.

Well yeah, that's the reason we do all this right.  Working hard to gain that advertised 12% improvement in cooling :bananarock: .

It's all about the cooling....  :drink:

That's what I was thinking. Thanks.

the motors are not powdercoated ,,it is baked on paint ,,only frames and pipe brackets (small stuff ) is actually powdercoat...unless I'm missing something,,,powder is alot thicker then the (stock bake on paint)..diomand cut reduces heat?? never knew that was their advertizment for that piticular upgrade,,learn something every day..

I thought the diamond cut was more of  a look, not a peformance upgrade to cool your motor,,if that is fact ,I will think on having it done,,, 12.F cooler....is a BIG difference ......

HP, that's something we've chuckled about before.  Justifying the expense and effort only because we want the cooling difference....  ::)

Diamond Heads doesn't after a 12 degrees F difference.  They advertise a 12% difference.  A cylinder running 200-220... woo hoo!

Oh it's true HP,it's true.  After all, why else would we go to the effort and expense if not to gain the cooling :nixweiss: ?

In fact the cooling effect is so profound, and so pronounced, it even works while the bike is sitting still, not running, cold in the garage.   :bananarock:
