2005 SEEG ride quality
« on: March 24, 2005, 01:40:23 AM »

Is it just me or does the seeg bike not ride as well as an Electric Glide Classic or Ultra?
I weigh 155, no air in the shocks and the ride seems a little harsh, not exactly what I was expecting.
Thanks,
Duane

Porthole welcome to the site! [smiley=beerchug.gif]  There are some creature comfort things that you'll learn on this site........specifically about the CVOs and even more specifically, about the SEEG (the most popular of the CVOs).

HD finally bought into the "look good at all costs" theory but then it's only the older folks that could afford this model.  So we get a damn nice lookin bike, lowered and all, but rough as hell in comparison to our previous Ultra Classics.  So................we still have to make some personal modifications to personalize to our individual tastes.  Join the club.

Before I made the switch to the 440s, I personally found that the bike bottomed out hard with low air pressure in the shocks. I found that with the wife on back I had the best ride at 40 - 45lbs, and no shes not a big gal. I'm 190# and she's 130#.
I initially thought that the ride was harsh and so I let some pressure off, down to about 12#, then it REALLY rode harsh, it was hitting the stops HARD. So I gradually began to increase the pressure until I was able to stop the bottoming. It was still a stiff ride but not bone jarring like hitting the stops. Be careful though, you can't put more than 50# in those shocks.  I know this sounds backwards but it worked for me, (at least until I switched to the progressive 440 standard duty 12.5 inch rear shocks and put SE heavy duty oil in the front forks.  [smiley=drink.gif]

I saw your message and after riding my 2004 FLHTCSE about 7000 miles I'm about ready to sell it. I ride alot with my GF and the bike bottoms out all the time. I have tried adjusting the air from none to max and have never found it to be a good ride. I'm about 170# and my GF is about 130#, I'm just curious if your really that satisfied with the progresive 440's ? Did the bike stop bottoming out? Did you install them yourself? If so did it take long?

Thanks for your response.

Put on the 440s, go with the 12.5 inch with standard rate springs. You can get a decent price from motorcycle accessory warehouse.

Thanks for the replies, I see that you mentioned the size 12.5" I'm 5'7" will the 12.5" raise the height of the bike? Also as I mentioned in the last post are they easy to change or should I have them installed by a local bike shop change them?

Thanks again

On my bike with 0 turns of preload dialed in it actually lowered my bike, with me seated on it. With 2-3 turns of preload it sits about the same height, again with me seated on the bike. I recommend the standard duty springs due to your stated weight of 155 lbs.

OK, from this thread and the other progressive talks I THINK I'm going with the 440's, 12.5, heavy duty. I'm 250, passenger 140, plus tour pack weight and gear. If I go to the King Tour pack it will weigh more (and hold more). But what I worry about is when I have no passenger, no tour pack, no passenger seat or backrest and empty bags. Will I still be able to use the heavy duties ? Don't want the back of the bike higher than the front.
What do you guys and gals think ??  Thanks John
