SEUC or Road Glide
« on: December 10, 2007, 09:57:52 PM »

I have done just about everything I can do to my SEEG, the bike is great.  Now I am looking for another project bike that I can make a true two up touring machine for my wife and I.  Obvious choice is the SEUC, but am also considering dressing up a Road Glide.  From my perspective, I am probably going to change out a lot of parts anyway, so I don't know if paying the additional upfront cost of an SEUC is worth it.  For those who have ridden both, what do you think?

Pete

I assume you are considering a bike in the Screaming Eagle line up.  :nixweiss:
From the very beginning, I didn't like the look of the fixed fairing on a Road Glide. I liked everything about the Screaming Eagle Road Glide except for that. That all changed when I finally rode a R/G and realized what a great ride it gave. My vote would be for a SERG for you with the only issue being that I know you like the H/P as much as I and that can only be resolved with money. If you looking for space then add a full size tour pack and your there.

Now if your looking outside of the CVO line up the choices become wide open. But that's another question with a different answer.  Bottom line is, take your bike and hold it at 120 and take my bike and hold it at 120 and you will know why there's a SERG in my garage. That reason is not about power it's about quality of ride and comfort. Your welcome to ride mine anytime you like if you want to confirm what I said.

Regardless of what your decision is, good luck on your search!

I had a '94 Road Glide before my 07 SEUC and went back to a '07 Road Glide.  I've put 11K on it since July and I probably won't stray from the FLTR again.

Pete, from my perspective as a SEEG and SERG owner, this one's a no-brainer.  God forbid, if tomorrow I had to sell one of the bikes, the SEEG would be on the chopping block, case closed. :shocked2:  Not because I could get more $$$s for the SEEG, but becuase the SERG is just a more enjoyable ride. :nixweiss:

Besides, if you're going to have 2 bikes, why not have them be a little more different than the SEEG and the SEUC are?

Take Chip up on his offer, if you have any doubts, and you'll know what we're talking about! :2vrolijk_21:

I don't think so.
He's waffling a little.  ( :o  :o  :o)
But all he has to do is to ride one and he will be hooked!
It's just a matter of time!

Wife and I are spending a week in Sarasota in February with friends.  Am going to rent a Road Glide for the week and put it through the paces.  Everyone seems to love them, but you don't see many in dealerships or rental fleets around here.  I did notice that once you get out West, Road Glides seem to rule!

Undecided on an SERG though as I will definitely be making upgrades.  Unlike most others on this site, I will state without doubt, that if I own it, IT WON'T BE STOCK! :2vrolijk_21:

First a bit off topic.
Chip, normally I'm the first to notice something visual and I totally missed Silver Black Blue. That's cool dude

Ok,
    On topic
Considering what an 00 or 01 SERG can be had for, my vote would be to pick one up one in the color of your choice and go from there for the ultimate RG. Don't get me wrong, I ride with pride when cruising around on LD, but there's not a day go by I don't wish it was a CVO. I figure I've spent $35k on it. Starting from say $15k for a nice used SERG like your and putting another $20k into it ?  Fughedaboutit

B B

PS
Oh yeah, to answer the question posed by the title of this thread. There's no comparison out on the open road pushing the century mark (and more) or when the wind comes whippin down the canyon. The batwing fairing bikes aren't even in that contest
.

Tell em BB!

As I said above, he can buy it now or he can buy it later.
But any man that wants to go fast on a bagger will eventually own a R/G!

You have never been the one to color inside the lines.
Yeah you can get you a BMW, or a Honda ST1300, both of those will fly.
But to go fast on a Harley bagger with comfort and peace of mind it's R/G all the way!

And PS
Good job Brian! :2vrolijk_21:

After reading all of the above it's hard to believe this 08 lineup didn't include a SERG..  Willie G says there is no demand for another SERG or they would build it.
Obviously, the right MOCO people don't check in here to see what is really wanted.

With all due respect to the one and only Willie G Davidson, he's too concerned with the bottom line. IMHO, he's lost that edge he used to have in leading vice following where style and design are concerned. And if you disagree, answer this  Would Willie G build the boat tailed Superglide today ?  Would Willie G build the Cafe Sportster today ?  The biggest new thing (so far) this year from H-D is a a rip off of Russell Mitchell's Exile Cycles with a big front end and two small headlights.

B B

I agree, the bottom line rules, investors expect a healthy return or they invest elsewhere.  Let's face it, no one keeps their bike stock (defined: as delivered from the factory).  It is far more profitable to produce a base model bike and then load up a  P&A catalog with high profit margin goodies we are going to buy anyway.  Not to mention the aftermarket which has a vested interest as well (note how HD is selling Kuryakyn product under the HD logo and vice versa?).  This even applies to CVO, I think the only things "stock" on my bike are the tins, paint, wheels and frame.  This is true of many members bikes on this site.  Besides HD needs to get back to basics in that there are too many problems with factory bikes that needs fixing before they start worrying about CVO offerings.  JMHO.
