ezo,

My position is well known. Paint it if you're going to keep it and put miles on it. If you're going to sell it in a year or two with low miles, you'll do better by keeping it stock.

You can always get a second set of tins and have them custom painted, then when you sell the bike put the original ones back on and sell the custom tins separately.

I agree with this also. It's not all about getting your money back It's about being happy with what you've got while you've got it. Most of us do things to our scooters to enhance the looks & a paint job Will certainly make it "YOUR BIKE". I've had several custom paint jobs done on bikes through the years & haven't recreated a one of them. I have the 07 cherry jester. Have thought about custom paint but still love the stock paint. Who knows maybe later???? I had a 80 model FXWG black with factory custom flame paint on the tanks. Saved them when I had a custom paint job done but a little later a buddy was down on his luck & needed A left tank so I let him have them. Kinda wish I'd of bought him one & kept them. Oh well it helped a friend out. Whatever you decide I'm sure will work for ya.   Linny

Just a thought but in between the factory CVO paint alone, and a totally custom paint job would be the factory paint with added "enhancements".  I've seen this done before, where the factory job was kept but some additional stripes, flames, accents of whatever kind--suit yourself, were added, and it keeps the bike recognizeable as a CVO, but makes it more unique at the same time.  Just be careful not to overwhelm the factory scheme.  Build off the factory paint instead of re-doing it.

Think of it as completing what the CVO started.

I enjoy the designing aspect of a custom paint project with my bikes. So far 4 custom paint sets even my VROD.

If it were me and my money (of which I don't have :huepfenlol2:), I'd go with Ernie's suggestion.  I believe that you'd devalue a CVO regardless of the custom paint job.  While a CVO appeals to a broad market share a custom paint job style will appeal to some but not others. :nixweiss:

Just my opinion;  I would do the custom paint job - then you have a custom bike with a real one off custom paint job.  Most of the CVO paint looks better than regular production paint, but is a long way from a real custom paint job.

Agreed - it really does come down to that assessment. Intend to sell relatively soon - keep stock or paint a new set of tins.  Intend to keep it a long time - do the custom paint.

Custom Paint......HHHMMMM, got me thinking......... :bananarock:

Do what makes you feel GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

The bike costs around $40K!!!!!!!, did you buy the bike as an investment???????? I think not.

How much will I lose if I sell it???? Who knows, but you'll still see a smile from me when ever I start her up.

My ride LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER than any 2006 SE Ultra made.... I don't have to say anything.... It's all the people gathering around my ride, when I return to my bike.......

BTW, I still get a woodie lookin at my ride in the garage or riding down the road.......

BTW, I vote for Custom Paint......... :2vrolijk_21:

No offense to anyone as I'm sure we all love our rides but when I was contemplating the purchase the one thing that kept holding me back was the paint.  Too much going on for my taste.  I wanted it for everything else it was and the paint has always been something I wasnt overly happy with.  I suppose I tried hard to "accept" it. I'm pretty low key and am always drawn to black with some subtle accents.  I've never thought of it as an investment or bought with the idea of resale.  I want what I want.

For the guys concerned about resale-  Wouldnt the cost of new tins offset any increased depreciation if there were any?  As for what I would buy first if I were looking for a used bike- Something different than the stocker.  If I were overly concerned with depreciation I would have never bought a new one.  Of course, the bottom line if your stoked on the paint, whether its custom, stock, or just plain its all a personal preference.  Its what makes us all unique ;D
