To me this debate will never have only one answer. It's like going to a car show and listening to those that want an antique car with matching numbers and original paint with the idea that it is a piece of history and it's hard to find any vehicle in original condition or near original. I bet due to Harley's PR/sales pitch over our bikes being a "blank canvas and we should make it our own" not only increases sales of parts but makes it harder to find a factory condition bike.
The flip side is the streetrod crowd that is more like a Harley person and they say modernize and personalize your vehicle to your tastes.
Personally I feel like I paid thousands of dollars for the CVO paint and did get to pick a color pattern I liked. So using the "blank canvas" analogy if I wanted a truly custom paint job I would use a stock tin set to build on since I didn't pay extra for the paint originally. Sort of a true blank canvas vs. buying the Mona Lisa so i could fingerpaint something of my own on the canvas. Why pay big bucks for paint then cover it up?
Someone considering personalizing a paintjob should also accept the fact that the more personalized a scheme the smaller the resale market may be. Some pinstripes or flames are more generally liked and would sell to a larger crowd vs. something like an odd color ,naked ladies, flowers etc.  I have heard of some people painting a bike pink to do things like keep a husband off of it or make it undesirable to steal.

Custom Paint......Do what makes you feel GOOD!!!!!!!!...I don't have to say anything.... It's all the people gathering around my ride, when I return to my bike.......BTW, I still get a woodie lookin at my ride in the garage or riding down the road.......BTW, I vote for Custom Paint......... :2vrolijk_21:

Well. can't actually say I get the woodie, but my bike does still turn heads, lots of em.  Rode with 100 bikes yesterday, a lot of them very unique, only my bike had the crowd around it asking questions and folks talking behind their hands about the fact that it was me riding it.

Paint it?  Of course, if it makes you feel good.  It is only for you.

Said it before though, just prompted to repeat.

Just my opinion;  I would do the custom paint job - then you have a custom bike with a real one off custom paint job.  Most of the CVO paint looks better than regular production paint, but is a long way from a real custom paint job.
I beg to differ.......it might be a 'factory' custom, but it's still a 'custom' and the paint job on my huckleberry straight from the CustomVehicleOperations unit of the MoCo is better than a lot of high dollar (Unique) custom paint jobs.  And if you think it's easy to duplicate, just take it to a good painter and ask for a quote.  I appreciate designing (and even doing the painting) yourself, but the paint on these bikes is very good and I'd opt for erniezap's suggestion of painting extra tins......you've got a 'win-win' situation then.  :drink: har!  spyder

If you decide to repaint, how about I buy you a new outer fairing and bags beforehand, and you send me yours? I've tried to get factory painted pieces for the FLHTCUSE to put on my SERK to no avail. :nixweiss:

FiredOOd,

You are on the ball. :2vrolijk_21:  I knew that would not get passed you.  I half way expected you to move them here.

I have come to learn that you and Howie got this site wired.  I can't hit enter without finding one of you has answered something.  Hats off Mr Moderator Dood.  :drink:

I had thought about doing that but decided I'd let Ezo strut his stuff and show them.

Thanks, it's all about helping one another... the more you hang out here the more you know and learn about the site.... pretty soon it's like second nature... everything falls into place. :2vrolijk_21:

I would not paint a CUSE other than to maybe, maybe, add eagles to the back of the bags.
