Radar Detector Help
« on: December 14, 2007, 12:07:01 PM »

I am looking to tap the great knowledge pool here again. I was about to purchase another K-40 radar detector system and I thought I'd check here to see if there are better systems being used by our CVO lead-foots.
What are you using that you would recommend? Thanks.

The Harley detector has served me well. Its been exposed to frog drowning storms , boiling sun , and freezing weather.
It also picks up radar around curves and over hills really well .

I have the Valentine One and it works great.  Well, on everything except Laser.

In Washington there is a lot of laser and all any detector does with laser is let you know you are getting a ticket.

On the other hand jammers are legal and many of my Porsche customers install the detector with the jammer equipment front and back.

We had the local PD test it and the laser jammer works.

Damned expensive, but what's a ticket cost in higher insurance?

Anyway, SRT10 is a good place for a detector and jammer :2vrolijk_21: :bananarock: :bananarock:

I have used the Escort before and found them helpful. The brand Roger mentioned Valentine I hear are very good also. I believe the person behind Valentine was originally w/Escort but ventured out on his own. Here is a good resource for radar detector information - Radar Busters.

I use a Valentine One radar detector in my vehicles.  In my opinion, Valentine is the best radar detector money can buy.  A nice feature is once you have purchased the radar detector, all future upgrades can be incorporated into your system for life.  The base system  has not changed for years.  When upgrades or enhancements become available, you send your radar detector back to Valentine and for a small upgrade fee, your radar detector again becomes state of the art technology.

Good point, mine sat idle for years and I recently sent it in and got it back completely renewed to current specification.  (why did I decide to use it again you ask, stopped three times in less than a month, I decided I was pushing my luck without it)

All this talk about radar detectors has me thinking again....
Does anyone have a system that will allow a radar detector's audio to interupt the HK aduio output?

Kennedy had a system for the older audio systems but as I understand it, nothing for the new HK system.

As far as radar detectors, I have used the Escort 8500 series for seveal years and I have always been completely satisfied.

Valentine One is consistently rated the best, of course depending upon which tester is supported by the mfgr. Have used it in the SUV and scooter both, the remote set up with hardwiring is great in a cage. And there is the general non-obsolescence with V-1 s/w updates.

Have you seen this - KT-STGH-95436: Kennedy Technology Group CellSet MC/GPS-Harley?

It states....

CellSet MC/GPS-Harley Audio Interface by Kennedy Technology Group - Allows a combo GPS/Music/Bluetooth device (e.g. a Garmin Zumo 550) and an optional Alert device (e.g. Radar Detector) to be connected to a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with factory stereo and intercom (1998-present Ultra models). All functions (Music, Cell, GPS prompts, and Alert audio) will come through the intercom headsets. The Aux Input is not used and is still available for MP3 or other external audio.

Well....that is getting real close to what I am after, 'cept I don't use the headsets!!!!

Hmm, wonder if something could be rigged up?

Never had the headset feature so don't know, but when the headset is plugged in doesn't it just divert everything that would be coming out speakers to the headset? I'm just wondering if the headset isn't plugged in would these features then come thru the speakers. :nixweiss:
