Extended warrenty due to oil leaks?
« on: December 20, 2007, 08:56:09 PM »

OK guys, 8,000 miles and no oil leaks yet.  :2vrolijk_21: But from what I'm seeing here on the CVO site, it looks like it is inevitable.  ;) I've gotten two quotes for the extended warranty that goes out to seven years. One was for $1,850.00 and the other was for $1,650.00. What are you guys having to pay for this? If someone knows a dealership with a better price thats out of my area, do you know if can it be purchased over the phone?

Yes, you can do an extended warranty by phone. :)  Just need to have a VIN and a form of payment.  Try calling Chicago Harley and see if their 20% discount they give on accessories and clothing applies to extended service plans.  I paid, I believe around $1800 for my 7-year, but that also included the Tire/Wheel road hazzard warranty.  I highly recommend getting that if you've ever gotten a flat tire, I've already had a nail in my rear tire, it comes in handy.  $0 deductable too.

Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

Yeah Man...........that coverage rocks!!  I used it for a front tire on the way to Rolling Thunder.  All I had to do was pay Tennessee sales tax.

radonc,

Give Chicago Harley a call and ask for the finance department.  I called them to get a quote on the SEUC and they quoted me $1,400 without the tire and wheel and an additional $299, which they said was their cost, for the tire & wheel.

That was a good deal.  I spoke w/Perry of Chicago H-D's Glenview location this morning & he quoted $1,644 for the 7-yr. & $299 for the tire/wheel option.  He said it was lowest priced when purchased within 90-days of original purchase of bike.  The dealer I purchased the bike from was considerably higher at $1,800 & $400+.  Got to shop around.

I purchased an extended service plan from Zanotta Motor in PA. over the internet.  I brought the four year plan 2+4=6 years.  Total price $1,150.90. The five year plan was $1,397.40.  This was the lowest I could find. Also saved state sales tax.

Greg:

Did that include the optional tire/wheel package & are you past 90-days since you bought your bike new?  That 5-yr. price is the lowest I've heard of so far.  Thanks & I'll check it out.  Here's the web link below.

I just called Zanotti in PA per gwright's recommendation & spoke to Andy.  He quoted the following for a 5-yr. extended ESP:
Base ESP....................................................................$1,494
Tire/Wheel option............................................................$365
Additional if after 90-days from original purchase of bike.........$150
TOTAL                                                                        $2,009

When I told him that was not the best price I had seen, he dropped it to $1,700.  That's the best I've heard of so far.  Some of these dealers are wheeler/dealers & this proves that you have to shop.  Thanks gwright for the tip.

You must be better at bargaining than I am. I also called them today and was told the price was $2,009.00 I told them I had heard they had a better rate than that and they said no that's the MSRP price, we cant do any better than that.

I told this guy Andy that I'd heard about his company from a forum, told him what I was looking (5-yr. ESP extended for 7-yrs. total + tire/wheel) for & he gave me the pricing broken out.  We discussed what other prices I had briefly that were $2,200+ from my dealer & $1,943 from Chicago H-D that was $66 less than him.  He said that they could work w/me & he just shot out the $1,700 number right away.  That's over 15% less than where he started.  Wonder what their cost is as these dealers are all over the place & this warranty is purely a commodity.  Once you have, it doesn't matter where you bought it.

If you are buying it for oil leaks, you better make sure it covers them.

Usually gaskets and leaks are excluded unless caused by a covered part.

My dealer mailed the contract & brochure to me for review.  It clearly covers seals & gaskets that's stated in Section 2.  I called him back regarding the much better price I found from Zanotti that another poster mentioned recently.  Before purchasing, got to make sure it's the same plan as marketed by H-D & not an imposter.

Proably a 100% markup, so at a 20%  discount there is still plenty on money being made.
