wow, your story is eerily similar to mine.  Sold my rice burner in the 80's when I got married.  Rented several HD's in the 00's and saw the light.  Got a new job with a co. car.  Thought I would end up with the RK Classic too.

Then I noticed I would have to add the TP, radio, chrome, cruise, security etc and ended up with the 07 CUSE instead.

Oh well, that's my story.

And a good one it is.  Funny how things have a way of working out for the best if we just roll with them and don't try to force something that is not meant to be.  You will love your harley much longer than the fleeting joy of owning a condo.   :coolblue: :cherry:

How ironic.  Funny thing is, when I travel for fun & rent, I always get the Ultra Classic.  Some friends call it the Geezer Glide & think I'm still too young for one but I disagree as it has all the amenities that you definitely want when you need them.

I ride w/a friend who has your bike & granted, I love my bike but, I've gone back & forth over that one as yours is one cool ride.  I'd love to see a compromise between the SERK & the SEUC because I can't yet afford both.  That might be a SE Street Glide.  What do ya' think?  I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere on this site before.

Mrs.WeCVO:

I think you're right as far as enjoyment goes.

Investment-wise, maybe not the most prudent decision.  Another point being that I could've settled for the RK Classic that doesn't have the engine issues.  But who could've known that way back then?

My story.  I saw my first banana at the international motorcycle show in seattle on Jan ’05.  I looked at it for a VERY long time.  I walked away sayin’ to myself “maybe someday but not now”.  It was off my mind for quite awhile after that.  I’ll back up a bit now.  I rode bikes as a teenager all the time.  I sold my last one, a Yamaha Maxim, when I went into the service vowing to not own another until it could be a Harley.  The years went on and there was never enough $ to fulfill that desire.  I never stopped turning my head every time I heard one though.  Finally 20 years later the urge hit me.  In Feb ’04 I became the proud owner of a ‘04 FXDL.  My thoughts were that I was only going to be riding 2-3k a year and just on the nice weekends and around town.  That year I put 20k on that bike.

This brings me back to where I started.  The main reason I was even considering a bagger was the envy I had for my buddies being able to lock there bags and grab a night bag and head into the motel rooms on our trips.  Me?  Unload everything cuz  I can’t lock it up only to reload in the morning.  And you know how it is being a guy.  Everything is a frickin’ competition (myself included).  Who can gas up faster?  Who can pass faster?  Whocan take that corner faster?  Who can pack up and get ready to go faster?  Not me when it came to that arena.  At least the guys I hang out with.  The next envy was the stereo and believe it or not the cigarette lighter.  But that windshield?  I am not that old right? Yes, no, yes, no yes, no.

So, one day in april (before this summers rides) I decided to start looking for a bagger.  The std. ultra just didn’t do it for me.  I was gearing up for a std. Electra and fixin’ it up.  When I did the #’s to the way I would want it I was near 30k.  That’s when I realized an SE was the answer.  Oh yea!!  That yellow one!  My hunt started.  Damn they were all spoken for on the west cost except one in Salt Lake City for 40k!!  Thanks to the Internet a 2 week hunt rewarded me with one in Little Rock Arkansas.  Getting it to Seattle was a different story.  MoCo was going to take too long.  I had to get it here faster.  I wanted to break it in before an annual ride we make to Cali.

Right down to the wire.  I picked up my bike at 6pm, took it home and loaded my gear by 8pm, kissed the wife goodbye and was on the road by 9pm headed for the party in the Redwoods!  I rode that bike until 4am in the morning.  The 500 break in was killin’ me.  I just wanted to gun it all night.  I was King that night even if was totally stock right now it just felt a bit surreal riding my new SEEG on a cloudless night with a stereo, cigarette lighter and locking bags.  When I woke up the next morning and hit the road the sun shined on it for the first time.  Seeing all that metal flake that I never realized was there one thought came to my mind.  I just bought a Bass boat!!!

It’s been 2.5 years now and 61k fun filled miles!!!  Memories created that will never be forgotten!   :bananarock:

Great story Zombie as it comes from the heart.  I don't think I've come anywhere near 61-k miles ridden on all the bikes I owned since 1977.  Of course there was a 23-yr. dryspell in between but that goes to show you how special your ride is.

Hey, it's a balmy 60 here northwest of Chicago but the streets are pretty wet.  I've seen some bikes out there already & am contemplating a quick ride but the warden is keeping a close watch over me & is expecting some production even on a Sunday.  Oh, the trials & tribulations of being addicted to the road on 2 wheels & especially in the midwest where the season is so short.

Thank you ivestorbp.  I am fortunate enough to live at least where it does not snow.  Heated gear and FF helmet helps the year round riding around here.  This winter is a bit different though.  The reason there is time on my hands and I am finding this great site and people is that my wife shattered her leg last month in an ATV accident.  it is time for me to $ time w/her.  I am a lucky man for that woman.  She understands my "affairs" with my bikes.  Just as long as I call every night and let her know I landed safely and that my "affairs" are limited to two wheels and not two legs.

Hey, sorry to hear about your wife's accident & hope she recuperates back to normal fast.  That's cool that you're there for her as she's been for you.  That's very important.

I joke about my wife being the warden & all but it's good to have a companion.  My wife's only been on my bike a couple times for a total of maybe 15 minutes but she wants to learn to ride it herself.  I have no problem w/that as she took the Rider's Edge course last fall at our local dealer but missed the last day.  It's a 5 day commitment & they had her riding a Buell.  The Road King is a pretty big bike for a beginner & I might take the course w/her this year in the spring.

It's a little past 5PM CST here & I was able to go around the block one time on my scoot.  That was cool as it's not going to be 60 around here for much longer.  You take care & nurse the wife back to health.  Glad you found the site & look forward to more stories.

I went in to buy a set of fat bars to put on my Heritage and came out with a motorcycle attached to them.
