2006 SE Ultra Classic - Good deal or not?
« on: December 24, 2007, 09:17:01 PM »

Below is the first offer I've recieved from a HD dealer.  Can somebody please tell me if this is a reasonable offer, and if not, what is?  I just want a fair selling price and a fair offer for my bike.
Thanks for your help and input...........it is much appreciated.

"Thanks for your interest in the 2006 FLHTCU-SE. This bike is a 2006 with only 1,633 miles. Autumn Haze.

The Tour –Pack is not detachable due to the upgraded amplifier located under the tour pack. This bike is perfect in every way.

My asking price is $27,495

I understand that you’d like to get the best value from you ’98 Ultra trade-in and I am able to offer you what I think is a fair price. Take a minute to consider your trade-in from a dealer perspective. 1998 model year-this makes it difficult for a dealer to finance as we approach the 10 year limit on financed bikes. This is also outside the extended warranty window. A prospective buyer would not be able to finance the total purchase price or buy an extended warranty on a bike with nearly 75,000 miles on it. This makes it less attractive to many prospective buyers who would otherwise find the price of the bike in their range.

The NADA book suggests a trade value of around $6,000-However, based on our conversation regarding the care you’ve given this bike and the fact that you’ve got receipts to verify your maintenance I’ve been able to convince my boss that your bike is worth more.

I am able to offer you the 2006 FLHTCU-SE for $19,995. And your trade-in."

Sounds fair to me!
1. You don't have to find a buyer for your bike
2. you trade a 10 year old bike for a 2 year old bike with a lot less miles
3. You become a cvo owner
4. It's the best color of 06  ;D

Buy the damn thing already!!

I'm with Vazhog.  You may try getting it for the $20K difference including tax and title.  Good luck and welcome to the site.

A low-mileage '06 SEUC is going to command a top dollar.  Their asking price for the SEUC and the trade-in value they're giving you on your 75,000 mile '98 both seem reasonable to me.  Like Boatman said, though, it wouldn't hurt to tell them you'll take it for $20,000 out the door and see what they say. :nixweiss:  But if they don't go for it, and the bike is as nice as a 1,600 mile bike should be, I wouldn't sweat it if the SEUC is really what you want.

Good luck and let us know how it works out!

I don't think I'd hesitate much on that deal.  You need to break the offer down to it's two components.

Is $27,495 a fair price for the SEUC, I think so

Is $7,500 a fair price for your bike, sounds like it to me......

If there was room to negotiate you may only sway a few hundred $$, not enough to make a real difference in the payment if it's financed...  JMHO

For a low mileage 06, I'd say that is an excellent deal!!  The bike's not even broken in well yet, and it's a 103" !!!!  (no offense to 110" owners)

The deal sounds fair to me based on the year and mileage of your trade in.  You're getting a low-mileage CVO and if that's the color you want, go for it.   ;)  You'll be happy with your decision.

And Terry, no offense taken on the slight towards the 110", beings I haven't had any problems, knock on wood, with mine.  It's running good and strong.

Other than replacing the transmission on my with a Baker 6-Speed - I love my bike and am happier with it than the following Ultra CVO's that have come after it!

Great bike - again I am very happy I upgraded that transmission...

so their offering you $7,500 for your ride as trade in?

IMO try and get them down to $25K + the $7,500 trade in.....

there were a few guys on here willing to sell the 06 SE Ultra for under $25K.....

BTW, you'll have a better chance with haggling if you weren't trading in......

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

My dealer sold my '06 CVO Ultra for $30k.  Your bike is the last year of the Evos.  There have been two big engine changes after that.  I'd say it sounds like a pretty fair deal.  I also think that was the best color of the '06s, and it is barely broken in.  Plus there haven't been problems with the 103s like we're seeing with the 110s.  -I don't think you'll be sorry if you take the leap.   :)

I'm curious, as I am sure others are too, what you have done in this proposal.  I know it breaks your heart to sell your '98 ultra for so little, but the package deal is not sooooo bad.  Everyone wants the best of all worlds, sell hight, buy low, but I think you gotta get away from the dealerships to be able to do that.  Then comes the financing part, do you have the $20,000 cash?  I wish you well no matter which way you go.

I know, I feel a sale and a purchase brewing in our family, so I am wishing for the Sale and Buy Gods to smile on all of the CVO family.

Well, as of yesterday..........I put a deposit down on the bike.  The dealer was very firm in their original offer.  They were not willing to negotiate that anymore than what they already offered.  It's frustrating working with a dealer, especially when you have a pretty good idea of what they are making in the transaction (both on the new bike and the trade in).

Another interesting twist..........after we came to agreement on the selling price, they tell me that there is an additional $150 for a "document and administrative fee".  Really?!  Like they aren't making enough money on the whole deal!!  I hate dealers!!!

They are offering a 2 year extension to the original factory warranty (which expires in April of 2008), for $995.  Or, an offer on a 3 year extension for $1150.  I'm curious as to what each of your thoughts on that are.  I will probably be closing the deal by next weekend.

Thanks for again for everyone's input.  I'm sure that I will frequent this site often once riding season comes back around the corner...........DARN SNOW!!

I paid $1599 for the 3 year extension on my 08 Ultra. :-[  Son of a .....  I did get the optional tire and wheel coverage for what the dealer alleged was his cost at $335 for the same period.

In my business, there is a varying degree of markup on these extended service contracts.  Even our MSRP has a GREAT BIG profit margin on them, and some mark up even more.

I got the extended service plan, at the time, mainly for peace of mind, and the fact that it was a "first-year" for the 110 engine.  After reading all the issues people are having with the 110, it may have been the best "accessory" that I bought for my jester.  Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with my 110....YET!!  I would, if you can get it, highly recommend getting the wheel/tire road hazzard warranty.  Worth the extra price.  I've already used mine once to replace the rear tire after getting a nail in it.   It's a zero deductable warranty, so it didn't cost me a dime to have my rear tire replaced.  Already paid for half of it with that one tire.   I paid right around $1800 for the 7-year extended and wheel/tire warranty...if it were me, I'd get the extended service contract....but there are others here that would definitely disagree with me on that...so you need to do what you think is best for you.
