Newbie and SERK 07 part 2
« on: December 28, 2007, 11:44:58 AM »

Hey guys Merry Christmas to everyone! Bike is comming along pretty well. Put the wind deflectors on the forks and they work pretty good. Got the new tank from the MoCo and it looks nice as well. Hit a snag with the leather tour pack and trying to mount it. Bought the frame and locking kit and it won't work. According to the local dealer the leather tour pak has the hinge on backwards so when you try to put the frame on the inside it pushes a larger gap between the top and bottom. So much for QC. Trying to resolve this issue now. Problem is I didn't buy the pack from Harley another member did. It just complicates the issue somewhat. The Brite light guys have cause me some major issues with there install. I finally had to  pull the fuse. Not getting much help from them on repairs that are needed. Looking to install the fork baffle to try and cut down on some of the swirling air. Still looking for a deal on a Deadcenter or Quadzilla fairing. Speaking of fairings do you guys know of anyone that makes something I can put on the motor guard (crash bar) to help with the wind? Got a little chilly last night riding (33 F) I think Harley makes a denim cover but it won't fit the bar on the SERK.? Thanks for the help we are enjoying the scoot! :orange:

try ebay for the quadzilla,  got a great deal on mine there.  don't know where your located , but your local auto upolstery shop could make a set of snap on covers for your crash bars.

I put a "standard" crashbar on my bike so I could run the slip on covers to help keep my feet warmer in the winter. A friend made them for me though, so it might be better just to have a custom set made -as harleyteam suggests.

I'm not sure what kind of problem you're having with the leather tourpak mounts so here's a picture of mine. The '07 and newer SERK has a wider rear fender and requires docking kit 53988-07 to work correctly. Until I bought the correct kit I was able to use the older style kit by switching sides with the bolt-on mounts and finding some spacers to get it right. It's easier to just use the correct kit though.

Here's an overall view of the bottom of the TourPak and mounts.

Mine seems to be with the frame that goes on the inside. The local harley store says the hinge on the pak is backwards. We'll see! Have a great New Year!

Here's a closer view of one side of the mount. If the pictures aren't enough to help you figure this out maybe you can post a picture or take another whack at describing what's wrong and maybe we can get it working for you.

Not sure what you mean by "frame goes on the inside"? Do you mean you think the mounting bracket on the tourpak should fit between the mounts on the bike?  :nixweiss: They don't really work that way...

Also not sure what hinge might be on backwards. My tourpak lid hinges at the front, but I don't understand how that might be causing a problem mounting the tourpak?

Hey Biker I know I confused everybody. I bought the internal frame that goes inside the tourpak with the lock kit. When the Harley store was checking the install it apears that the hinge on the tour pak is on backwards according to them??Because when you try to close it it leaves a large gap! Just wondering if anyone has run into this? ???

When I bought my first tourpack, it was warped, so one side had a large 1/2" gap. Dealer replaced it and the second one was just fine.

Good Luck.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about. My question was about the leather tour pack and the fit with the locking kit?
