Anybody Tried Saddlebag Lid Organizers?
« on: December 30, 2007, 02:01:36 AM »

I was thinking of ordering these from Chicago HD, I would appreciate any information from those that have tried these.
http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442292081&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309216637&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309216637&bmUID=1198997679683&bmLocale=en_US

I never have my tourpack on and these seem like a good answer for all the little stuff.

I have had them since I got my SEEG, I like them very much and they are very functional. If you have the saddle bag spoilers and or the trim pieces that come stock on the SEEG you will need to remove them and punch a hole in the organiser for the bolts.

Thanks Jim, I just ordered them. I figured I'd put one on the nana and one on Elvis.

I use them also MJ.  Not huge pockets but they're an especially great place for storage of items you need on the bike but don't necessarily need all the time.  SERT dongle, power adaptors, spare phone charger, spark plugs.  Lots of small stuff that's nice to have can fit there.

I have them and they are handy for small items. I keep clear glasses on one side and tinted on the other. In one pocket I have a small pad and pen that I generally log my fuel mileage on. I have had to retape them to the lid once or twice. That may have been an initial install issue or something may have snagged it in the bag. All in all a must have. :2vrolijk_21:

Oh yeah!  You won't know what you did without 'em! :2vrolijk_21:

Need some saddlebag liners to go with? :nixweiss:  (Just thought I'd ask :nervous:.)

Could not get mine to "stay stucked" on the lid.  The edges kept coming off the supplied adhesive.  I tried some other stuff, but to no avail.  I'm going with the wall organizer on Big Red.

Sure can Randy.  There might be some small difference in how fully stuffed the luggage can be as lid organizers will occupy some small amount of space up top.  Liners will make a very minimal amount of difference on their own.  But if you've got spoilers or lighted latches or anything else that leaves a harness in the bag to protect the liners are very much a required addition.  Overall the difference is very small though.  The luggage works fine.

If you will use a heat gun and heat up the lid and the adhesive strips they will stick great. This a good trick you should use on all pressure sensitive tape.

Along with the saddlebag lid organizer, consider the saddlebag tool tether p/n 53579-01.  Great for tools, spark plugs or other items you wish to carry.  I have both on my bike and love it.  See pics...

Thank you for the pictures Pete.  I don't think I knew about those.  If I did it was in name only as I know I'd never seen in with its fly open like that to see how it worked.

Damn you guys, I just wanted to know about the lid organizers, now I need to order the tool teather and bag liners. This place cost me every time I read a post. ;D ;D ;D
Thanks for the info on the heat gun, I have friends that have had sticking problems with the tourpack lid organizer. I've never heard of using a heat gun for that and since I do have a heat gun, it will not cost me more $$$$. :2vrolijk_21:
