Is there a better/smarter oil to use in these 110's over the Harley oil?
Which is the best stuff?

Search for "Amsoil", "Mobil", and "Redline" (those are the most popular), and you will find several threads on lubricants better then H-D's Syn3.

I think the reason there has to be a lot of reading is that there is no definitive answer that works for everybody across the board.

If you are planting grass - you can get the best grass seed to grow in your area of the world, in shade, in sun, for short golf course type grass, or taller hardier type grass.  But you will still need to study to know what to buy.

For us, we have to figure out what kind of riding we do, in what part of the country - forget that we may cross state lines and several elevations many times in one trip, for what bike, what our dealer or mechanic likes, what is readily available in our neck of the woods and at what price.

Kat ------- do the reading.  Then if you do your own oil changes make a decision.  If you have someone else do it, see what they like, have available and at what price, then make your decision.

We all think you are going to decide on Amzoil, Mobile and or Redline over HD's Syn3.  But if Syn3 is all that is available, you will use it and like it d$#@n it.   ;)  It is one of those things you will have to educate yourself on, and then you can ask your buddies what they like ----- then ask them Why they like that one.

Good luck.

Mrs We,   As a golf course superintendent, I'm impressed.  ;D    As an HD owner, I don't think there is an oil that would solve some of the current problems.  ::)

Solve all the problems no,  but I know you use the improved oil of the ones listed instead of the HD brand.

Now I did not know about your golf course knowledge.  I need to talk to you offline to help us tame our lawn.   :D ;)

Just given my two cents. I left the HD oil in on my bike. Haven't had any issues with the 110 yet, but if I do the oil is one thing I didn't want a finger pointing at even though dealer said I could change brand. Same reason I have them do the oil change till warrenty is over. My own experience with oil in our drag cars was royal purple gave us 3 more hp over mobile one equivalent and also helped to run cooler and bearings and rings showed less wear. I don't run my bike like we do the race cars so I think the hd oil should be ok. I agree with the others here that the problems some are having with there 110s the oil would not have helped.

I've read the same thing about Mobile and Amzoil being better than Syn 3,but can someone,in a nutshell tell me why? Or post a link to some test data?  I mentioned this to my HD dealer and he looked at me like I had 3 heads.

After reading all the great info on the site about which oil to use - I opted for Amzoil in the motor, Redline products in the primary and tranny in my 07 Jester.  I've found that the Amzoil is by far just as good as any of the others in seeping through the gaskets  >:(...

Wow - even with all the posts on OIL I still find I need to enter my two cents...

Redline Shockproof Heavy for the Baker 6-Speed
Harley Synth fine for the engine...

Do we know who makes H-D's Syn3, can't see them doing their own from scratch?

"Best oil to use in our 110's to help problems?"   I'm not aware of any oil at any price that will fix poor mechanical designs and/or poor quality parts.

If you read through some of the threads the 'd00d listed you will find that Amsoil and Mobil-1 are rated the highest in overall performance, while SYN-3 is middle of the pack.  This does not mean SYN-3 is junk, it just means there are "better" products available.  The fact that those products are often available at significantly lower prices than what H-D charges is just a little extra incentive to make the switch.
