I was a my dealer today and the Service Manager looked up the Cylinder and Headgasket part numbers guess what???? No Part number changes.  :nixweiss:

The area service rep will be there tomorrow to look at the wifes bike, bad paint on the front fender and a defective seat. The Service Manager will ask for new repair parts for the 110 but they alrady guessed the answer.

I KNOW NOTHING BUT WILL TRY TO FIND OUT!

The gasket is changed. The metal layer has been replaced with a graphite layer. I did not know graphite was strong enough to stop a cylinder liner from moving. That must be some stong stuff  ;D. Yet another band aid.

Maybe the service rep will put a couple drops of super glue on the edge of the cylinder liner to keep it from moving. :bananarock:

Maybe drilling a few holes in the cylinder and stopping at the liner with just a drill point dimple, then threading the hole and installing set screws up against the liner.  Just being silly.

I thought about just drilling a 1/2" hole through each cylinder with one of those 2 ft long electrician's bits and putting  bolts through with a nut on one side.  -Of course I'd use locktite!

Then upon further analysis, I realized I could have a problem with piston interference, so it looks like I'm back to the drawing board.  :P

Well it finally did it, I had a small leak.  Took it in to the Harley shop and had the rear cylinder replaced. Talked to the service manager the cylinder and gaskets have A after them, so the parts are coming out with a new mod.  Maybe it is the fix we were all hoping for. :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

I'm not sure what the cylinder number is, but the gasket, 16801-07A came out early last year, maybe it was April. I'd be interested in knowing what the part number of the cylinder is.

Chief, what's the part number for the original cylinder?  Will be easy enough to put an A after it and try it at Chicago Harley's website to see if its been added to at least their system yet.

From '07 SERK Parts Manual:

17285-07 Cylinder Assembly , w/16195-99A (Dowel Pin Rin, ring-4), Black (2)

They don't list the cylinder only.

New part number and has an A at the end...hmmm...maybe...but sounds fishy...you wouldn't be the first to be misled by a dealer tech...

Yup, much easier to say there is a new part number than to say that we just put the same parts in and hope to god it's fixed.

November 2007 rear cylinder replaced with Part # 17285-07A and head gasket 16801-07A.  2,000 miles later, leaks again...going in 1/29/08 for repairs the second time, along with letter sent to MoCo with customer ticket # stating if MoCo can't fix it this time...reimburse me my $$ back or new (different model of course) motorcycle.

Good luck to all with the leaky 100's..... :-\

I went by the dealer today to check on my repairs. They received both cylinders (no part number changes according to them) and the 4th generation (??) head gasket. Problem was they only received one set of rings so still waiting on parts. I did take pictures of the original head gasket (3 layer sandwich gasket with rivets to hold the layers together) and the new one piece graphite looking version. See attached. They said it should be ready tomorrow as long as the rings came in....

I guess in my small mind I continue to envision a system within MOCO that keeps the dealerships informed with the latest information - especially when they have a chronic problem to fix.  For every post that states their dealer has told them there is a new cylinder and new cylinder part number - there is another post that states their dealer has told them the opposite.  It still seem inconceivable to me there are so many dealers that state they have no knowledge of the problem, other dealers that state knowledge of new components or some "fix", and others that know of no new components or "fix".  All in all, not a good example of acceptable communication, much less an acceptable response to the problem.

I have no memory of believing in fairy tails as a young child...I wonder why I do now?  Wishful thinking, I guess...
