SOS In need of Help from the XP Home Gods!!!
« on: January 07, 2008, 01:55:39 PM »

Tried to light off the desk top cpu today and all I got was the Windows XP startup screen with the bar that loads left to right and then a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. Hit ctl+alt+del once and recieved the same result. Tried to get it into safe mode via f8 to no avail. Tried hard reset - same result. Can't seem to hear hard drive trying to even get started!!

Sinking fast any help GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Howie

Either motherboard or hard drive more then likely have you installed anything recently and also try and boot 3 or 4 times the minute the xp screen comes up shut it off then you may be able to get to a restore screen if its a operating system problem

Thanks for the input, I'm still at it but it's lookin like a new computer may be on the horizon, sooner than anticipated. This is a Dell built in 02. Open to any suggestions.

I concur... that blinking screen of death came to visit my work computer a couple of times last month... had to replace the hard drive twice!

It's a Dell. I have a compu-geek buddy of mine here now to take a look. Will log back in as soon as I know if last rights have to be administered. Thanks again.

I just helped one of my friends buy a new dell laptop... ended up buying an Inspiron 1521 at Staples for 7-- ish

nicely equipped and slick laptop... and walked out the door with it...
desktops are pretty inexpensive these days too...

not sure which you are seeking

good luck, sorry about your 'puter challenges

I guess I would like a laptop but don't know if the Altec Lansing surround speakers I have will plug into a laptop! Don't want to lose the sound quality when I need it! I'll take a look at the 1521 and see what it has to offer. Thanks

The should work w/o any problem. I've given my daughter speakers that were used on a desktop to hook up to her laptop. :2vrolijk_21:

On the back of your DEll are four lights ALL green means everthing is AOK- You can tell what's wrong by looking online at Dell looking up your model number and then trouble shooting manual, that is where the light codes are. It's a start.
