VIDEO - International Motorcycle Show 2008
« on: January 13, 2008, 01:36:21 PM »

All,

Went to the 2008 International Motorcycle Show yesterday with Toyman and Dave Z. Linked up with Gra$$hopper, Hollywood, and Guzz. Ran into Kuala, R6Hokie, Big Steve from Cornerspeed, Dwight from Colemans, Walter from AMSOIL, and the good folks from Fairfax Cycles and ATVs.

Great show. I got new boots!! Man, I needed them ... the ones I had were ground down past the toe sliders into the boot itself. I got a pair of Alpinstars SMX-R's for $208 ... tax included.

Lotta beatutiful bikes. That new BMW is really good looking ... and the new Ducati 848 has like 130 hp ... and gets to run in the 600 cc class (watch out!). Same goes for that new Buell 1125r. It's gonna be an interesting season watching these new v-twins with gobs of HP run against the inline 4's.

Controvertial, for sure.

Harley-Davidson was well represented.  The only display that rivaled theirs was Ducati and Yamaha.  Harley was the only booth that gave "shows", too.  They had a guy giving demonstrations of how to change pipes and wheels ... taking questions, etc. They also had a girl giving classes on how to pick up a dropped bike for women.  It was good.  I watched 5 women try to pick up a dropped bike and 4 out of 5 did it with the technique they were teaching.  The one girl that couldn't do it was like 5' 00" tall and weighed about 95 lbs ... and I think she coulda done it, if she tried a bit harder.  So, pretty decent technique.

I can't wait for warmer weather.

Magic, thanks for including the technique in your video post.  It's so seemingly obvious I NEVER would have thought of it.  It may even work for my 900 lb ultra.  Only problem is I'd have to do it several times on each side I think.  It would be REAL easy to put it over the other way if not careful.

I've done that ... twice ...  :-[

Seems like everytime I wreck the clip-ons (bars) get damaged, so when you go to pick it up, the steering head won't turn and you end up getting all screwed up and flopping it over the other way.
