FLHRSE3 resetting the security code
« on: January 14, 2008, 08:52:12 PM »

I have a 2007 FLHRSE and have been trying to reset the security code. I can't seem to have any luck following the instructions in the owners manual. Has anyone had trouble putting in a new code. Instructions tell you to turn the ign. on-off-on-off-on, press left turn 3 times and right turn one time and let off, the signal lights will flash 3 times, (this happens, but nothing else), then your code will show in the speedometer milage. My code never shows up. all I get is the milage showing up. I tried using the transport mode and was able to program this in, I also was able to change the alarm back and forth from the chirp mode to the silent mode. Either I am doing something wrong or this bike won't reprogram the code. One more question- Should the gas cap come apart in 2 pieces when removing to fill with gas? This is the first bike, I have owned with a pop up gas cap and have never seen one that you took out of the take in 2 pieces, but mine does.

if you lose your remote or it craps out ( ask Otis about that one!)  you can deactivate the alarm and ride
otherwise, you just get a freaking headache from the alarm screamin at ya

I can't never get mine to show the blank lines or if there is a code it won't show it. I get as far as the signal lights flashing 3 times and nothing happens after that.

I've not tried to reprogram, so can't help there.  But on the gas cap, it should unscrew as one piece.

Anytime the battery in your key fob goes dead and your alarm is set.

My bike is programed to set the alarm automatically, each time I get off the bike.  Carrying the key fob in my pocket, it did go dead once......at the top of Twin Peaks in San Francisco.  I called Jim and he walked me through the code thing, over the phone......it worked.

Dreid,

Sounds like its time for a trip to the dealership. I was able to reprogram mine without any problems. It showed all 1's in the display when I went through the procedure to see the "old" code. My bike was a dealer trade so I'm not sure if one of the two dealerships changed it to all 1's or if it came from the factory that way.

It seems like someone at my local dealer told me that it can be a little tricky setting the code the first time, but I'm not positive about that.

You're doing the right thing by trying to learn the code. I got stuck at a gas station in Reno a few months back (I live in Oregon) and didn't know my code. The bike was getting some kind of interference from something electrical at the gas station and the alarm couldn't receive a signal from the fob.  ??? I finally pushed the bike about 20 or 30 feet away from the spot where I filled up, and then the alarm was happy. It wasn't fun pushing the bike with the alarm going off, but it worked. I recommend that you carry earplugs at all times too...  ::)

I reprogrammed mine the day I bought it  8/07 and only had to mess with it once since. Alarms ,chirp and flash when I shut her down as it should. Takes a lot of motion to set it off though. Can remove the saddle bags without the alarm set off.
Gas cap is one piece. Dropped mine once and put it back together. Little rubber ring gasket fights you. HD replaced whole thing at no cost under warranty. Go see you dealer about both issues.

Did anyone find solution to this problem?  I can't get mine reset and dealer is not much of help.  They want me to take the bike to them to reset it (40 mile ride), what a joke. :furious3:

It seems like there was a lengthy thread on this subject about a year ago, and as I recall some of the '07 owners manuals actually did not have the correct process for setting/changing the codes.  Someone posted the correct process.  You could search for the thread, or try to sweet talk Gary into doing it for you.  I would suggest something like this, "Hey d00d, I bet you can't find that old thread on setting security codes."  He will have it for you a couple of minutes later.  ;D

I looked for over an hour and couldn't find it.  I don't think he can find it either.

I remember the thread Travis mentioned, but none of the obvious things to search for it are bringing it up. Sorry. :(

Thanks for trying.  I tried myself and couldn't find it.
