If I were in your shoes, I'd get the Baker DD6 with the change in the primary to get you the higher final drive ratio. That would be the cat's pajamas.  ;D ;D

I can't comment on the cost as I never have gotten that far. They don't have one to fit my 2007 so I guess I'll have to live vicariously through you.  ;D ;D

If you get it, please tell me how much you like it.  :2vrolijk_21:

I believe the MSRP for the DD6 is around $2495, so $2400 installed doesn't sound too bad.  BTW - Eastern Performance has the DD6 gear set on sale at the present time.

I'd say that was a fair price... a local Indy shop here was running a special last year, and if memory serves, that price is about the same as they quoted me.  It's on my list.

Why do you want to change your trans? Do you have to because of problems with your stock trans?

I have both a Screamin Eagle 6-speed and the DD-6.

IMHO it is not worth the money in changing to a 6-speed....If you want to save money on fuel...lit will take over 100,000 miles to recoup the investment........If you think that lowering the rpm's will help save our engine.....the worst thing you can do to a twin cam is to run it at too low an rpm. You lug the motor, doing undo stress on the internal parts.

The DD-6 uses a 28 tooth comp sprocket. This helps in creating a direct drive  for 6th gear. Making it actually more efficient. This is the better of the two for touring. IMO

The SE 6 speed....once you change to this you can't go back. Grinding of the case is in order....Alot of people change out their primary gearing to a 24-37 set up. This is the better of the two for a bar hopper. IMO

Good luck, but if it were me....wouldn't waste the money

Dan,

The Screamin Eagle six speed was an overdrive transmission, but the Cruise Drive is a 6-speed with a 1:1 6th. A 1:1 is prefered over an overdrive due to being more efficient. The reduced overall ratio, 2.79:1 comes from different primary gearing. Before 2007, the compensator was 25 teeth and the clutch sprockket was 36 teeth. The rear sprocket was 70 teeth. Now, the compensator was bumped to 34 and the clutch sprocket was raised to 46. The rear wheel sprocket was also dropped to a 66 tooth sprocket.

I've attached a simple spreadsheet I did while I was looking at a change of the Cruise drive gearing which I don't like because 1st is just way too tall for me.

Chief,
Can you figure what would happen if a SE OD transmission were installed and then you replaced the 25 tooth comp sprocket with a 24 t comp sprocket .

Im thinking this would lower 1st through 5th and still have a taller 6th than the stock 5th .

I can`t figure out the math.
