Alarm pager problem
« on: January 16, 2008, 02:38:08 PM »

Don't know what section to put this in so I'll try here.

I bought the rechargeable pager from HD for the bike and charged it up and tried to "encode" it to the bikes alarm following the instructions, which seem simple enough but the pager won't sync up with the bike no matter what I try, :nixweiss: anyone here of anything similar or have any ideas ??
Tried a search but didn't find anything.

Thx

Did you have your key fob near the bike when you tried pairing it?

DD...unless they changed in 08, the alarm module you have is not compatable with the pager...you will have to purchase the "Smart Siren II" alarm module to get it to work.  The pager you bought is good to go once you replace the alarm module.  It will then pair up.

Oh yea, forgot about that part. :dunce: :huepfenlol2: Thanks Terrry. :2vrolijk_21: Now once you get the part TC mentioned it might want to make sure you have the key fob near the bike when you go to pair it. :D

Doh

I thought it already had the smart siren 2.

It has the siren on it.

Ok, more money to spend I guess.

It says it's smart siren 2 compatible.

I'm pretty sure thats what the 08 SE has.

Here's what I bought:
http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448771260&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309212012&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309212012&bmUID=1200512658259&bmLocale=en_US

.

DD....I'm not a bettin' man, but I'd bet you have the Smart Siren and not the Smart Siren II on your bike from the factory.  It's another way for HD to get a few more dollars out of you  ;)  It's an easy swap, so now that you have the pager, just go on and cough up the bucks for the other module.

BTW...let me know how the rechargable version works...I have the one that you have to replace the batteries in, and it seems to like batteries.  The rechargable would be nice.

You're not the first here to discover that, so don't feel too bad :2vrolijk_21:

This is what you have...

The Screamin’ Eagle Ultra will be offered in three exclusive color combinations: 105th Anniversary Crystal Copper and Black Onyx, Copper Canyon and Stardust Silver, and White Frost and Silver Mist. The 105th Anniversary serialized limited-edition model also features exclusive medallions, badges and wrap-around Tour Pak. The vented lower fairings and inner fairing and switch panel are color-matched to the selected paint scheme. A Harley-Davidson Smart Security System with Smart Siren, an indoor storage cover with CVO logo, and a commemorative CVO key in a presentation box are also included.

Got that info here.

I don't often get the chance to get a post in about this kind of stuff before you do, Gary, so I was compelled to.   ;D ;)

Glad to hear it's just not mine. Any special trick when you change the battery (do you have to pair it again)?

If I remember correctly, Gary, I did have to pair it up again after I replaced the battery.

I'm killing two birds with one stone, so use the same pager for both the bikes...just have to re-pair to the Vrod when I take it somewhere I have to worry about.  Mostly, I worry about the bike when I'm in motels for the evening...rest of the time, it's pretty close by.  I try to sit in places where I can keep an eye on things, and like my back to the wall... ;)

Ok, thanks. I had thought that might be the case. In regards to the rechargeable one wonder what would happen if the battery on that went totally dead before recharging would it to have to be paired again. :nixweiss: I'd bet it wouldn't be recommended to leave it on charge all the time. What is a person to do. :confused5:

Depends on what kind of charger it is, Gary...a lot of the chargers for rechargeable things like my camera batteries, etc, are "smart", so they turn themselves off, then back on as needed, sort of like our bike trickle chargers do.  Hopefully, this one would be the same  :nixweiss:
