Front motor mount - need your opinion
« on: April 08, 2005, 10:09:54 PM »

What do you guys think about the gap between the rubber and the washer/metal portion on my front motor mount?  Maybe I am imagining things due to the long winter and driving my super-smooth cages for months on end, but I thought maybe I was experiencing a little more vibration than normal, got to looking around at the front motor mount and wondered if it was to blame.  Does this look normal to you?

I will check later today Brian.

I don't think that is supposed to be there but I honestly don't remember.

Yikes is that salt slurry I see caked on there?  Man, you've got to get that cleaned off of there before it starts eatin' stuff up! [smiley=shocked2.gif]

Just walked and looked at the red bike for comparison Brian and it looks exactly the same.  I've only had one of the front mounts off in my hand once before and it's been awhile.  But I think I remember a steel sleeve up through the middle of the rubber mount that accounts for the perceived gap.  Just to see what it'd do I put a wrench on it and it didn't tighten up anymore.

Thanks a lot for the reply, Don.  I guess it must be the 4 or 5 month of no riding.  I went to the dealer in Ottawa, IL today to meet DJW and scoped out a couple of touring bikes there and same thing.  I guess I'll either have to get re-used to the vibration or get a Gold Wing? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Guess you'll have to wait until the Smokies to see what I decided to do.

Mobe, no that is not salt.  I am very careful to wait until after the first toad-strangling rain in the spring to get the bike out so the roads are good and clean from that junk.  I think it's just the flash magnifying every minute particle of dirt there is under there.
