Now you should do something for yourself...add the mid-frame heat shields which will pretty much keep the heat you still generate off of your inner thighs.  I noticed a BIG difference when I put them on my SEUC.

Spoke to the guy who developed these for Kury.  He said the rear jug would run COOLER when the bike is moving, with these attached.  I have the Kury version & to me it looks better than the HD version.  They work great at deflecting engine heat away from legs.

I put the HD ones on they work great also.  I decided on them basically because my bike is black and they blend in nicely with the color.

Mike...did he 'splain that to you?  I'm assuming that it is because the deflectors, when moving at speeds fast enough to make a difference, would deflect some amount of air back down on the rear cylinder.  On the other hand, when sitting still, while making the rider more comfortable, it seems it would also trap the heat around the top of the cylinder.

Would these make the engine run hotter?  The engine heat has to go SOMEPLACE.

I'm with you TC. That claim falls a little short on the fact side.  :nixweiss:

I suppose one might think that.  But under actual riding conditions and in stop and go DC rush hour traffic, my engine oil temp, according to my digital dipstick, is not any hotter with the shields on then it was when I didn't have them installed.  That's the results I've seen with the HD ones.  I can't speak for the Kury's.  So, at least with my bike, they haven't increased heat, but have noticeably kept the heat off of my thighs.

I have a pair of the O2 Sensor Inline Enrichment Device siting in my garage. I have not installed them yet, because I recently installed a oil temp gauge and wanted to compare temps with and with out these on the bike. I have ridden about 600 miles with the gauge with out the enrichers, but only in low temps. So I am still waiting. However, I had the opportunity to get a PCIII from a local tuner and decided not to. I told him about the O2 enricher and he offered to Dyno my bike with and without the enrichers installed - I have not arranged for this yet but will post results here when I do 8)

That sounds like a couple of good Ideas, Please post when you get the mods completed.
Will be interested on the results.

It's been storming for over a week now and I am awfully itchy to ride - but it will be nice and green when it stops and that will make for some beautiful riding!! Here are some pics of my oil temp gauge install. Tell me what you think

Hey Bikerbehaviorist, I like your idea of using a better accurate gauge over the dipstic approach. My wife has the dip stick gauge which leaks and constantly blow out and i doubt it's accuracy. What did you use for a mount and how? Em, I've got an old rocker box mounted oil pressure gauge, i wonder if the oil temp gauge would fit in this mount. Did you use a cup of some sort to hide the back side of the gauge? Please send me the how-too's

thanks,

any chance of sharing video of your bike in the wind tunnel? that must have been cool!  also, i agree about placing a cooler between the front tubes-----at slower speeds (when you need it most) it becomes an oil heater! its very close to the headpipe. the better cooler mounts to the left tube on the outside.

When we did that I did not have a camera or camcorder. Still today I dont take many pictures. Wvery once in a while I will get a wild hair and take some....but then I forget how to post them and Kathy gets mad at me because I can't remember.

We did this back in Sept of 04. Pretty cool. My Grandfather retired from NASA and helped set it up. He knew of some guys that rode Harley's and worked there. They had more fun with it than I did. Lots of 3" painters tape and cardboard trying things out.

The inaccuracy and problems I read about the dipstick are exactly why I did this type of install. I used the following for the mount.
http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=86
So Yes it is in a pod that hides everything. There is a hole in the back to route the wiring out of. The gauge is 2" in diameter if I remember right those pressure gauges are smaller than that. Oh yeah here is the gauge that I bought http://www.wallyscycleworld.com/virtualshop/vsquery_new.asp?PVMID=88&PVSID=3013 the sending unit plugs into the oil sump right next to the drain plug. Let me know if you were looking for more detail. I am thinking of mounting a volt meter on the other side to balance the look
