Need a Good Navigation System for the York PA Trip....
« on: January 22, 2008, 07:58:13 PM »

I Purchased a Nolan N-102 Modular helmet

it ties into a Autocom Intercom System (Communicate via a Wire Connection from unit below seat to my passenger helmet)

http://www.autocomamerica.com/product_details.cfm/productid/36432

Been reading threw many threats and concluded that the Garmin Quest 2 is the navigation of choice???

Would like some feed back from members that have this unit or other as well...

Has anyone wired their their navigation system threw the autocom system  :nixweiss:

Not sure why this unit came up to be your Navigation system of choice, but I would seriously consider either a Street Pilot 2820 or a Zumo over the Quest.

Street Pilot has a external power only

Zumo 550 Has up to 4 hours and has a Rechargable battery

Otherwise similar products...

Which is the way to go regarding Battery Life....

Is 4 hour enough?

Which one do you own?

I am very happy with the Zumo.  It comes with both a vehicle mount and motorcycle mount - so I move it between my car and bike.  I also have the XM option with weather.  For most, the battery life is insigificant because they power the device by wiring power directly to the mount or by using a power point connection.

I own a Zumo 550. Other then the battery life. Look at these things...

Accepts data cards:

Voice prompts (e.g. "Turn right in 500 ft."):

Speaks street names (e.g. "Turn right ON ELM STREET in 500 ft.") :

3D map view:

Hands-free calling with Bluetooth® wireless technology:

FM traffic compatible:

XM® Navtraffic (includes basic weather) & Radio for U.S. compatible:

MP3 player:

Audio book player:

Touchscreen:

Headphone jack/audio line-out:

Some of these things you may or may not be interested in immediately or might like the ability to have them later.

C/B CVO - I was posting a list of advantages the Zumo 550 has in comparison to the Quest 2, & D00d already posted them above .  He knows more about Zumo than most & is a wealth of info on it.  Other stuff too, but it ends up costing me $$ to read his posts.  ;)

The 550 is the unit I chose - very happy with it.  It speaks turns/directions, & has an MP3 player & Bluetooth.  Use the MP3 player a lot, & the Bluetooth in the car.  You will be happy with it - congrats!

On buying the unit - I did lots of internet searches & found it for around $619, no tax, delivered.

C/B - Buydig.com.  They were rated ok & the delivery service was faster than promised.  New unit (not refurbished) in box.  Read the Zumo threads D00d has on the Zumo.  More info than Garmin gives you, & in an easy to understand format.

There were several companies around $620 on this back in November.  Amazon search & a few others turned up several options - Buydig was best at that time.

Remeber D00d bought his at PC Nation, & they are $659 now.  Buydig is $689.

Do I need to order any additional mounting hardware to install unit onto bike?
