Change your bars without cable or wire changes
« on: January 26, 2008, 07:47:23 PM »

Wild-1 Chubby's  8" fit up to an 03 SERK with stock lines, cables and wires. One tip, you need to change to 1" risers from the 1-1/4" ones that come on the bike. Great deal though, for about $260 you can gain 4" in height and a much more comfortable reach. Bubba_T was smilin pretty when we got his set up today.

Thanks to hd_dude for lettin us know we could probably do the swap without the hassle of wire cutting/splicing etc. And thanks for a good price on the Chubbys Jim

Does anyone know if Wild1 has a set of bars out for the 08 SERK with it's electronic throttle control. I'm looking something with more pullback and a little more rise. Thanks.

Yes, Wild 1 now does their Chubby bars with the special cut-outs for the '08 throttle control. They said to order from the factoryand be sue to specify that it's an '08 with fly-by-wire electronic throttle. If you order from a dealer, they will likely have old stock they want to get rid of. There's  sets of bar that seem good for a SERK: 508, 517 and 518. If you go to www.wild1inc.com you can get a comparison chart of the sizes. By the way, the 08 SERK has these handlebar dimensions:

Width:     31.5"
Rise:        6.25"
Pullback:  11.0"

You'll see that the 508, 517 and 518 all have different variations of the above numbers, but not too far from the original SERK bars. You'll see that the 517's have 2.25" more rise with 3.5" more pullback. The other two bars are actually lower. Good luck!

Brian;
Glad they worked well. :2vrolijk_21:

For those wanting to do this with bikes that have the 1.25" risers, W1 sells adapters that go over the 1" bars to fit the larger risers.

The 8.5" baby apes I sold Brian are the WO513 , the adapter part number is the WO806.

Thanks Brian for this post.  I was just days away from making the swap to Chubby mini apes.  You were right, all cables were reused and they don't look stretched across the handlebars.  By the way, these new bars fit me perfectly...much more comfortable riding position for me, and I think that they look better too.  Here's a few before and after photos for comparison for anyone else that might be thinking about this change.

First, a before shot...
