That's sounds fun. Howie are you fairly close to Lake Placid?

Ed
A couple hours maybe. Spend as much time up there as I can especially in the fall. I have some pics from the high peaks this past fall with beautiful colors but can't seem to locate them. Will continue to look.

Yea ya gotta do the bobsled at a minimum!

Sounds good! Hopefully we'll all be meeting up at Long Lake this summer with that "Other" Howie... ;)

As much as I miss riding during the winter months I do love snow sports and winter too. Breaks up all that good warm weather. ;)

Nice Pictures - Lake Placid is a fun relaxing city.  Was there when I was a kid - enjoyed every minute!

Calling it a city is quite a stretch...... a cute little town is how I remember it.

Not long after the winter Olympics my roomate (in college) had a bright idea over winter break to go camping in the mountains and climb a peak.  We were woefully under prepared and spent some very cold long hard nights on the trail in January.   The first night was minus 22 deg F (minus 44 with wind chill factor).
got dark early afternoon and light was late.
seems like we spent an eternity in those sleeping bags........
The worse was exposing skin to temps that we could only allow just a few minutes before  we risked frost bite.
I never have seen cold like that ever....and I used to live in Detroit and Snow skied.
We were lucky to survive....just a couple of 19 yr old punks that thought they knew everything, and  we spent 5 days and 4 nights outside in the mountains in January................
What the hell we were thinking?

I used to live in Plattsburgh, NY on Lake Champlain about 60 miles NORTH of Lake Placid. It's really in NORTHERN NY. The "real" upstate. Yes, it gets VERY cold there but it is beautiful. They have an ice skating rink right in front of the Olympic center. It is a town, not a city. Kinda touristy. Nice ride in the "summer" (4 weeks - end of July, beginning of August). Long Lake is beautiful as is most of the Adirondacks. If you're in the area, be sure to take the ferry ride to Vermont from either Plattsburgh or Elizabethtown.

Great pics Ed - I'm kind of missing the white stuff this year as I can't afford the time to come to the U S for 5 weeks and take my annual ski trip.

Thanks for posting them - always good to see a new place.

Gotta try the Bobsled and Luge rides - never felt G's like I did on the bobsled. A lot of fun! :2vrolijk_21:

I went to Lake Placid in the summer once and did the self guided Olympic tour.  One attraction is a bus ride to the top of the bobsled run and you walk down inside the course.  it's about a mile long and made of concrete and, of course, it's downhill which makes it real easy.  it's amazing to walk through the sharp turns and see how high the banks are on the vertical walls.  I'm sure riding in one is a blast but if you aren't an adrenaline junkie or prefer warmer weather this was fun to do.  The other thing that was interesting to watch was the free style ski jumpers practice by skiing down a teflon ramp and landing in a swimming pool.
