In all honesty, I wanted to upgrade my engine for reasons only my future therapist and ya'all would understand. One day I was riding my hella stock SE FatBoy around the neighborhood; I'm going up my usual turns and flats when this dude on a bagger ( I think ) comes up next to me, acknowledges my "Screamin' Eagle" and wants to play at a higher rate of rpms. At the time I was totally content cause I had just put on V&H 2-1 ProPipe and I was happening. DON'T LAUGH yet.....
So, he pulls up, and throws his wrist down and blam....He was all tail light and license plate. ...He blew me away with amazing torque and I thought I had a rather large displacement engine packed with Harley's best street/race parts from Screamin Eagle division.....
I hooked up with that same guy later that day: as with all bikers around here, we go to the cantina, blah blah blah, on Sundays; found his ride, found him and proceeded to embarrass my sorry ass with how little I actually knew about the real way to modify based on riding style and to know what results I want prior to the dumping of dead presidents into the local speed shop. I barely was able to speak the same language with him; which ironically I speak quite fluently today, thanks to hard research and this sites offerings.
If I knew anything that day, he surely didn't think so. So I spent considerable time, money and effort on my SE FatBoy only to have doubled my budget for the project, breakdown twice on one road trip and spent $4,000.00 plus for repairs, etc....Then have it done again by the guy who owned the performace shop that closed its doors before I returned with my limping FatBoy.
The other reason I really got involved to a much higher plane of understanding is simple: The 3,000 or more miles of riding this wonderful machine after the REAL TUNE I received in Hayward, CA were with no competition or any doubt: the best miles I have ever put on any vehicle, ever. The bike was soooo sswweeettt, I swear to you all, as your friend and brother CVO owner, there is nothing even close to my SE FatBoy after that tune.
So, I suffer Euphoric Recall, and seek the moment that made me so outstandingly in touch with my Harley Davidson. I think I would have smoked the guy who inspired me if we had met again, during those 3,000 miles of riding. But, who cares? I learned, I am still learning, and as always now a days, I hopefully humble myself down to earth and respect our CVO's more than ever.
See, If I was out riding right now, I wouldn't be writing all the wordy diatribe on topics that I should be reading about instead.
