Sometimes custom comes out of necessity

Two years ago on road across the Europe, tree Polish bikers
came onboard same short distance ferry as we took.

They were using ice-hockey protection pieces ducktaped over their
jeans as driving gear

They were underway from polan to Gibraltar and back. I did
not want to embaress them by taking their pictures... but I had to photograph
the bikes.

But, you have to respect them as fellow riders.  It takes a special mentality to saddle up and go riding.

They were young lads, having good time... and
eventually became some what famous at the
end of their journey. They were actually making
a dvd of their journey, and some money selling
them later.

Nice lads... but they had some serious problems with
German police while on motorways
