Grew up as a kid with an outlaw biker on my block. I was always hanging around his place, even though I wasn't allowed. I'd get his tools and beer, and felt special cause he let me hangout there. He even let me hang when all the club members came by. I think they got a kick out of a 7 YO being so into it. It stuck with me ever since.

When it came time for me, and I can afford it (started on a RD400 Yami 2-stroke after the "kid dirt bike days"), it's because it's AMERICAN, the tradition, the soul, the sound, the feel, the vibration, the image, the ladies loved em, and you could ride the b'jesus out of em, and still be cool. I'd never run any other style bike. Aftermarket HD's OK with me too. But 45 deg, V-Twin, air-cooled, single-crankpin flywheel bottom end (as Hub said, potato, potato!)........! As far as I'm concerned, I'll have one until I die!!!!! :2vrolijk_21:

Why do I ride a Harley?  Because I want to.  ;)  I've owned and ridden Honda and BMW and always came back to HD.  Now, I'll always ride Harley...because I want to.

Pretty much started for me in the early 90s when my Dad couldn't ride his old Shovel anymore and I traded my 750 Honda (smaller, lighter, etc) with him. At least it let him ride a few more years. I was riding Suzuki mauraders and intruders at the time. It came time to trade my 99 Intruder and I stopped at HD and rode a 2003 EG Standard. Hooked me bad. I loved the feel, sound, and looks. After riding the 77 Shovel it was clear MOCO had come a ways in 26 years. Loved that bike. Kept it and tried a 2004 Super Glide. Wasn't for me. Traded the 03 for an 05 SEEG and then my 07 SEUC.  Now I lve the feel, sound, looks, POWER, toots and whistles.

I ride one because people can't tell if you are cool or not. I am really not, but when I am on the harley, they don't know that! :smart:

I grew up in the environment.  My first ride....at about 8 yrs. old...was on a Harley.  I'll never forget the big huge seat and of course the smell of burning oil (although I didn't know that's what it was, at that age.....for several years after that, every time I'd smell burning oil I'd say "that smells like a Harley. LOL).  I brought home my first one, a 45, in several boxes.

That was back in 70.  A few years back, I actually bought a used Goldwing (because it was so fast and smooth) but it just wasn't the same......it only lasted a couple of months.  Had to come back home to the Harleys.....
I cant believe JC had a goldwing! Thats like John Wayne riding a jackass

been awed by Harleys all my life,  but got into drag racing cars with my buds when I was 16. which lasted into my 20's. couple of us got into dirt ridin in 71.  had a wakasaki enduro when gas started goin way up, ($1.00 ) a gal. in the early 70's.   Now, I was married, had a pregnant wife, a pregnant dog, and gas was just too expensive to justify keeping my 70 SS chevelle.  427 L88 motor, 456 rear.  too costly to just keep in garage.  wife saw dollar signs and wanted me to sell the car. so I did. in Feb. 1975.  but I screwed her, went right out and bought a new 75 XLCH Sporster.  Don't have that wife anymore,,, but I still have the bike. In 90, got tired of kick startin, was 40 years old and wanted an old mans bike(you know,,, push button start) so I bought a new Heritage.  Still have that. In 94, met my present(and last wife) who rode her own sporty.  she now has 2 fatboys (a 95 and an 05 SE) and I now also have a 07 serk (the pretty one, RED)
can't go anywhere in our house without trippin over somethin Harley.  I will never own anything but. and we ride whenever possible. :apple:

She said " we need a motorcycle ". After the brochures started coming home with me "No you don't understand, it has to be a Harley".  The next thing was," I like that one, but only this color."  So having your wife tell you, you need to buy an 06 SEFB, says to any one with a heart beat, "The search was on." Long story short SHE SAID SO.

Some cool replies!! I don't know if I will ever get through that 2 part post, Thats longer than any book I have ever had to read!!  :zroflmao: :zroflmao:

My wife told me that I have to modify this original post, cause I didn't mention that she loves to ride just as much as I do and that it was her idea to go with to new bike instead of the used one!! :nixweiss:

When your wife demands that you buy a new Harley, what are you gonna do, right!!  :idea2: :idea2:

We both enjoy riding and this year we hope to get to do more trips and meet all you goofies someday!! :huepfenlol2:

I had an 05 Goldwing.........that too lasted for 2 months. Nice bike, no soul and a cracking frame problem.

Also a little secret the Yamaha Roadstar is also a 45 degree air cooled single pin crank......sounds the same....don't look it though and never will. One thing that Harley could copy that I would support off this bike is the oil injectors half way up each cylinder sleeve to keep things cool...........other than that they can keep it.
