Van, I think he's asking about stock heads and cams. :nixweiss:

Correct, I'm looking for what comes stock.  Looking to upgrade to Gear Drive cams soon and it helps to know what is stock so I can compare.  Considering Andrews TW37G or their new ones TW54G.  The TW54's call for high lift springs (.555 lift) and I'm wondering if the "stock" SE heads will work with these.

Chris,

There are plenty of folks running the .575" lift Red Shift 575 cams that were specifically designed for the stock 103 heads using stock spring packs.  The limiting factor with the stock heads won't be the valve springs, it will be compression ratio and flow.  Freedom Cycle also has a cam specifically designed for the stock 103 using stock springs.  Information on both the Redshift and Freedom cams can be found on this site.

Freedom Cycles is a Dealership, that also did performance HD parts/work. Brad and Mark now market their performance HD parts under the name "Yuill Brothers". Here's the link to their new site: http://www.yuillbros.com/index.html The contact numbers there are Brad and Mark's personal cell numbers.

They now have specific packages for different engine sizes, include cams made specifically for the 110. Their package includes their new A/C assembly, their new Exhaust System and their engine specific cams. Each package also includes a SERT map made for that specific package, which is an extra $250. Excellent performance marketing technique IMO. ;)

Hoist, You are right, great marketing stratagy for a bolt on kit, but $250 for a sert map seems a bit excessive...or am I missing something here?

He did dyno tunes for these specific packages. He says you can bolt on his package, drop in his map, and not need to get Dyno tuned. I said all engines were not created equal. He agreed, but said that on factory stock production engines, they should be consistant enough that you'd be happy with his map. You can always tweak it on the Dyno if you like. No PC maps. Might come in the future. But he likes the SERT. ;)

Not that I would personally notice, but if a map is created off dyno runs (say) at sea level (high O2) and a high humidity area then slapped on a bike (say) in the mid desert range (or vice versa), wouldn't there be a dramatic difference in performance?  Or am I just thinking of PC's that work on a +/- % of stock AF mix? (Haven't fiddled with SERT's much)

Thanks for the info.  The TW54's look like a winner - Andrews recommended them also.  Anyone know why they call them "doughnuts"?

Chris,

I am not positive, I think someone on V Twin Forum or Harley Tech Talk gave it that name. I remember seeing a photo and their seemed to be a large washer/spacer in the photo, maybe that is where the nickname came from.

Careful..."Donut cam" designed for 07-08 motors. Different heads and different comp. ratio than 04-06 SE's.  Looking like a great bolt-in cam for those bikes, though.

Spoke with Andrews and they strongly recommended the TW54.  I was specific about the year and the motor with a concern about the lift with "stock" springs.  Said they would work fine with the '05 103" SE heads.
