Polyphemus; turns in to a big moth, not a butterfly.  Found a website to identify the little bugger by googling "different kinds of caterpillars."  Then got separate confirmation from another site found by googling "caterpillars of New Jersey."

Learned the following:

Grows to approx 3 inches and feeds mainly on oak; also feeds on hickory, elm, maple, birch, linden, willow and chestnut. Found throughout the United States.  Answers to name "Harvey."  Turn ons: bark, studly butterflies, nice fall days before mutation.  Turn offs: boots, flyswatters, birds, Osama bin Laden.

(I might have made up part of that.)

.

Back when I was a Lt I leaned to fly Cessna 172's on Okinawa.  For the cross countries you had to fly to these little postage stamp islands north of Oki, there was one we landed on that looked about like this.

It was a full flap landing and JAM on the brakes and short field take off to get off the runway in time.

Good stuff!

We used to call them tomato worms. They hide on the underside of the leaves, which often protects them from sprays and powders, and eat them from the outside edges inward. I think they morph into large white moths. If' you disturb them, they will actually raise up their back ends which have distinctive markings in order to scare predators(and everyone knows worm as$ tastes bad). They are however high in fat and carbs, so after removing any legs, hairs or other hard parts that can damage your internals, mangia!Great survival food. Good in soups stews and salads.Add them to a fresh Jersey tomato salad and show the bastids what payback really is.

Trust your pilot!

Those pilots are nuts Duane.  I was on a CH-46 (dual rotor helo, like in the pic) out in the Mediteranean delivering material to ships in the battle group and had to deliver some stuff to the USS South Carolina, a cruiser, and and what they did so that I could get off of the helo was "touch" the rear wheels on the fantail of the ship with the nose of the helo out over the water and raised and lowered the helo with the ship rising and falling in the water.  I gained a lot of respect for those guys that day.  Scared the bejeezes out of me trying to get out of that helo.  :o

Ok, now that the mystery of the caterpillar is solved, does anybody know what species this flower belongs too?

Commonly known as the Tramp Stamp Lilly.  Wonder if it's scratch and sniff?  :nixweiss:

China is working hard during the Olympics at making guests from other countries feel welcome.  I heard they recently fired their interpreter.  Here's why.....

But taste like cat.....
