I hate to interrupt but I have a couple of dozen photos of some amazing country that I would like to share. For those that are interested, these are large format images that will fill up most monitors. For those that are not interested, please pardon the intrusion.

2009-03_01: Following a creek bed near West Yellowstone, MT.

2009-03_04: We met a couple of youngsters from Rapid City; one of them wadded his machine up into a tree. The machine hit hard enough to break the crankcase. He was ejected prior to impact and the only part of this rider that was badly damaged was his wallet.

2009-03_05: Rich and I towing the wreck out of the Tobacco Root Mountains. Just a little stuck at this point.

2009-03_06: Planning a descent in the Centennial range near the Montana-Idaho border. This sort of thing is done all day long.

2009-03_07: Looking for access in the Wyoming Range near Alpine, WY. Again, this is done all day long.

2009-03_08: We don’t need no steenkin’ bridge.

2009-03_09: Sneaking off a ridge.

2009-03_10: The beginning of a little adventure: This would have been a great place to turn around; instead it marked the beginning of a 3.5 hour adventure that finally got us back to the Motel around 9 PM that night.

2009-03_11: Just behind the camera marks the beginning of a 200 foot shelf that we had to dig for the sleds in order to get around the next bend. We knew that two creeks would eventually meet up ahead and the area would open up; although we didn’t know exactly how challenging it would be to get there. As with most of these trips, we had never ridden the area before. We might have tried pulling a sidehill around the bend, but failing that would have resulted in an upside-down machine at the bottom of a creek, four feet below the snowpack. This would have also guaranteed a night in the woods with no warm bed or Cable TV.

2009-03_12: The end of the long shelf taken just after the lead sled passed through. The good news was that it doesn’t get any darker than this. At this point we just had our headlights to help us pick a line through the creek bed. At one point after the lead sled collapsed a natural bridge in front of me, I crossed the creek atop a deadfall with my skis hanging in free air; when in doubt, throttle out.
