This happens more than you think. I have a friend that had a similar incident, but the buffalo didn't actually hit the bike. She said that she was on the back of her husbands Ultra when a buffalo in Yellowstone blocked the road and started coming towards them with it's head down. They got off the bike, keeping it between them and the animal. After 10-15 minutes a pickup with a camper on the back came up and saw what was happening and slowly moved between the Buffalo and the bike. They got back on the bike and rode on the opposite side of the truck until clear.

I was with a group riding through the park in 09. We were being filmed from the rear of a van by a film crew hired by HD. While riding through a cranky herd of buffalo (during Rut) I was charged by a calf about the size of my scoot. After I changed my FTL's we laughed our azzes off!!! Unfortunately we split from the film crew before I could ask what they were gonna do with the film  Here's a shot just prior ...

We had a similar experience:

This momma was walking towards us at a steady pace! Beefy was freaking out! I just told her to get on the other side of the bike. Momma came about 4 feet from us and started to eat some grass on the side of the road. It was a tense moment! We kept the bike between us!
