Is this common to CVO Riders?
« on: April 14, 2005, 07:40:30 PM »

Who had two months?

900 miles into ownership, and down he went today.

Coming off Storrow Drive in Boston near Fenway Park. Hit some sand and had to upright. Unfortunately moving a little too quick for the angle of the off-ramp....

Hello guard rail.

Damage assessment:

Me - Got up pretty quick. Ribs a little sore. No skin on the left knee, bruised left arm, and a little pride stinging.

Bike - Needs new left directional. New left mirror. Complete outer primary casing, maybe a shift lever, and probably a new tank. It's got two dings in it, and some paint rash. With it being the MoCo specific paint job for the FXR3, I bet I pay out the hole in my left knee.

Whoo hoo...Spring's here!!!!

O' Man, Sorry to here about the mishap......And I hope this is not common to CVO riders!!

Its good you were able to walk away from without to much damage to yourself. The rest is paint and chrome. It can be replaced. Good luck on getting it all repaired and or replaced. Do you have full coverage insurance? Hopefully so then the financials won't be to bad.

Good luck and best wishes!

Thanks to all for your well-wishes.

Yeah...my pride hurts more than anything, but I actually took the best possible alternative to what could've happened.

I was able to jump up and fire up the bike immediately. The shifter was bent in to the primary, so I got it as far as second and then pulled off the road, where I realized the primary was dropping oil, so I had no choice by to trailer it to Boston HD.

They're planning an estimate tomorrow.   I've come up with:

Chrome Outer Primary Cover = $299
Chrome Inspection Cover = $40
Chrome Clutch Cover = $60
Fat Bob Fuel Tank (primed) = $376 (+ MoCo Custom Paint Job)
Turn Signal kit = $59.95
Headlamp = $74
Chrome Mirror = $27

$935.95 plus custom paint work, and labor.

I'm hopeful they can bang out the tanks I have, but I'm probably just that.

They can't get it back to me fast enough. I want my baby back!!!

Which will happen first....the bike's back, or my knee skin grows back / huge purple arm fades / I figure out if I actually have a cracked rib?

Oh...and after riding through the snow the other night....forecast for Boston next week: mid to upper 70's

I had to have killed someone in a former life.

The part I have to wonder about is timing.
How long to get a replacement tank?
That could shut you down for a long time.

oop's and glad your ok! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Tough break! Glad your ok! Still a lot of winter sand waiting around the corners, we need a few more good rain storms. They'll probably be fixing potholes until July. something else to look for. Lot's of snow this winter over 100". Hpefully you and your bike will get mended quickly.

Well...the tank I have is still in working order, but if this is an insurance claim...I have to get it all done at once. You do raise a good point.

Sorry to read of the mishap.  But really glad you're not much more but sore.  And while not CVO specific that kind of incident is more common this time of the year.  Piles of sand and other stuff left over on roads from the winter that collects up in piles in places where motorcycles love to turn.  For some reason the bikes just never see those piles of loose stuff in the road either.  They should be smarter than that  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] .

Really glad you're ok.

Sorry to read about your accident, glad you are ok, thats the main thing...bike is repairable. Unfortunately, as the old saying goes: "you have either been down or your going down" if you ride long enough..happened to me...You thank God when you can get up and walk.

sorry to hear about your mishap,

You were really lucky that only you were still able to ride right afterwards.  We see too many ambulance rides around here on the weekends in the mountains where 2 wheels on 2 lanes are paired up.

God speed on a quick recovery so you can enjoy the rest of the riding season!

our average for custom paint @fenders-tanks etc is around 12 week turn around
sorry to make this worse than your aches and pains man. but glad to hear your pride is hurt worse than you - we have all dropped them one way or other - just for a thought here - you should know HOW to pick up a dropped bike - you can fracture handlebars by grabbing them to lift without knowing it until its too late later (early in life experience for me)
your insurance rep should allow you to drive with bad tank until new comes in if that is all that will be left to do - it is a returned item that will have to go back to HD I believe

Yeah..the tank's just got rash. doesn't appear to be structurally damaged. I'm awaiting the appraisal now. I'm expecting around 2K or so. But we'll see.

If they let me ride on that tank until the new one arrives, I'm fine. :)
