Scott, it was 50 degrees, cloudy, I grabbed the wrong gloves to turned up the grip heaters and it was GLORIOUS.  Take a Saturday and put it on a trailer and go down state if you have to.  But you need to have this fun.  You really do.

Great news to hear Don.  It's fun  to ride when the bike's run the way they should.  It sure has been a long winter and hope it warms up soon and stays warm.     :2vrolijk_21:

Today in eastern Washington and I'm stuck over here at work and my bikes 60 (0r 2,000) miles away.

Damn it! ::)

Congrats on getting yours on the road Don.

Don, no doubt the 6th gear torque you're talking about is due in no small part to the pipes.  As happy as I am with the Rinehart true duals on mine, I'll never forget riding JR's bike 40 miles back to the motel to get my truck and trailer after the oil cooler line popped off in MV.  His bike with the same setup as mine, except the D&D fatcats, pulled top gear noticeably easier than my bike, which I had just gotten off of.

I'm sure with the combination of the motor work and those pipes, it's gotta be a true stump-puller! :2vrolijk_21:  Congrats on the successful build and falling back in love with the bike!

Thank you Rog.  It's been a labor that wasn't always of love.  But that was never the bike's fault.  Sure is nice to have it happy again though.  A cranky bike can ruin your whole day/month/summer/riding season.

Bob, winter is winding down.  It has to be.  We're getting closer and closer to York everyday!

Brian, since the combination is now so different of course I can't hang it one particular peg.  All the time selecting components and wearing vendors's ears off getting first sales spew then actual details then modeling out the details has worked out though.

From a couple of before and after dyno sheets I saw with the difference being just FatCats your feeling on the pipes is certainly accurate.  This is what they do best.  I'm just glad the rest of combination seems to go along with it to allow it all to do it so well.

Answering a question that I just read from a buddy in email.  Throw it up here too just in case anyone else was wondering.

Temps today reached 55.  So not a day to test things at all.  So far, however, it gives absolutely no sign of needing the compression releases.

It's a high torque starter, a good battery and a cool day.  That's kind of the perfect storm for ease of starting.  Hot summer days and a head soaked motor that's been stuck in traffic would likely report somewhat differently. But so far I'm guessing the CRs will only be a need in really warm weather.

That was one thing I wasn't wild about either.  This pair of heads comes that way from Harley.  One head with the nice cast in Screamin Eagle script.  The other with the cheesy plastic CNC Ported tag screwed on.

When I first got them I had an "oh chit" moment and assumed it was a mismatched pair.  Was getting ready to get on the phone and immediately assume a vendor screw up.  Before making an ass out of myself, however, looked at the parts breakdown for the pair and that's the way they're supposed to be.

Guess they're just very proud of the "CNC Ported" part.  I thought of machining up a little aluminum plate akin to what I made for the center of the air cleaner cover.  But it still wouldn't match the other head.  The only small saving grace is that the cheap looking plastic tag is on the front head where it's not seen as much when everything else is installed.

Don,

At Millers in Daytona I found a replacement for the CNC piece.   It was a mini tag that said Screaming Eagle.   They come in black incase your looking for a replacement for the cnc cheesy one.   On Michelle's bike I have been thinking of grinding off the screaming eagle and just having two blanks or two of the mini screaming eagle tags.

I could see that little tag on the front head when I'm on the bike.  But I'd have to lose some weight, get a lot more flexible and ride with my face tucked over my right knee looking down in front of the air cleaner.

Sorry Duane.  Those images in the garage suffered from poor light and others just haven't got taken.  That one day I got a chance to ride it that's all I did.  Just ride it.

We're supposed to get snow again this overnight.  If the forecast is wrong and the driveway is clear I'll back it out and get some pictures later today.  Need to back it out to run it back up on the lift for the impending clutch replacement anyway.

Not even sure myself what it came to Brian.  Collecting the parts was a slow process that I never got in any hurry on.  Some of the bits were eBay scores also.  That helped a lot.  A real good buddy had donated a set of 96" take off cylinder heads that I then used against the new CNC ported heads.  That deal ended up getting me the new heads for a song too.

Will list the parts I can think of this time in case someone sees enough favor in the results to want to reproduce some or all of it later.  Of course to really do that guess I should list the build in its entirety rather than just the latter corrections.  This task included the following:

Mackie 598 gear drive cams, Feuling oil pump, plate and lifters, TP "Pro-Vent" rocker boxes and TP roller rockers, HD adjustable pushrods (because I lost the good ones), HD high strength cylinder studs, D&D FatCat 2-1 exhaust, Axtell 107" (3 15/16") cylinders and pistons, HD CNC ported cylinder heads with machine work to mate them to the cylinder and pistons, 50 mm throttle body and intake.

Am sure there are other small bits and pieces.  But that will cover the important bits well enough to allow anyone so foolish a jumping off place.
