So, after reading NUMEROUS threads on NUMEROUS forums, the take away I get is the HD made NO CHANGES to the '08 110" motor (from the '07).  Is this accurate?  What about the new head gasket that looks like it has a rubber-seal going around it and in the bolt holes (looks like an o-ring)?  Has anyone tried these yet?

Thanks,

Frank

'new' head gaskets

The one that has the rubber-looking seal on it (wish I could remember where I saw a PIC)?  Is there are new part number?  If the oil leak is caused by liner slippage, do you really want to mask the oil leak?

The liners were checked and were OK. The new gaskets do not yet have a part number. They were supplied directly to the dealer by HD Tech Service

I got my FLHRSE4 back last Wed. 2-20-08 after taking it in on 2-7-08 with approx. 3400 miles on the odometer and they found that the sleeves had moved in the cylinders. So now with new cylinders and gaskets, no visible leaks after 300 miles.

se bikes are great and some do have problems...there are some motor mods that can be done to ensure a trouble free bike...replace cams, exhaust, and have it tuned with a fuel injection controller like screamin' eagle race tuner or power commander...if you're unwilling to do that, it's a gamble and you might be better off with a 96 or 103

I think the simple answer to your question is no, the '08's do not have a change that would preclude a head gasket leak.  Harley appears to still be trying new experimental gaskets to repair bikes with leaks ('07 and '08), and perhaps a better gasket will help on some bikes.  However, I'm not aware of any magical gasket properties that would prevent liner movement.  If the cylinder liners move, no gasket design I've ever seen is going to eliminate the problem.

Welcome from Illinois, I wanted this bike and waited several years to upgrade to this model. I have always been against buying extended warranties for anything, but after hearing of some of the issues with the 110 motor I decided to purchase an additional year for a total of 3 years, considering I live in the midwest and probably ride half as much as our friends down south I felt it was good insurance for a peace of mind if a problem does arise. I couldnt be happy to own this model. Safe riding.

Glad you found us over here from the HDForums. I went through similar questions, going back and forth on whether to buy or not. Read everything I could find..the good, the bad and the ugly. I'm glad I took the plunge. What does the wife think? Does she like it better?

I have an '08 sitting in the garage waiting for spring & am not concerned. I'll ride the chit out of it & if it breaks, they can fix it!

That's the best way to look at it. My thoughts exactly .

I have an 08 SEUC which I bought back in Sept 07. I just had a 10K done on it this past weekend. When I bought it I broke it in for the first 1000 miles and then I put a SERT on it with Rinehart slip on's. At 7800 miles I noticed I have a small weep on my rear cylinder which is very minor now but we will keep an eye on it. I also removed my lower fairings to allow as much air as possible on that motor. I also switched over to amsoil and the bike is running like a raped ape!! I did purchase an extended warranty with Harley so hopefully within 7 yrs they will come up with a concreate fix. I LOVE THE CVO!! 8) 8) 8) 8)

Welcome to my world >:(  Took mine in yesterday to get new gaskets with 2800 miles on it.  The service writer admitted that they are seeing this very often on the 110's.  He told me I will be getting the "New Improved" gaskets.
Sure glad I spent the $$$ for the extended warranty ;)
