I've been a knife instructor for a long time... there is new technology called "waved" blades that is faster than automatics.... and they are not yet prohibited as automatics can be in some States or in Canada.

With five minutes of training, I can draw and deploy this with remarkable speed.

Beginers can do it within about ten minutes.

This site never ceases to amaze me.  There are experts on EVERYTHING here!  Mines from Swiss Army and I never leave home without it!

Interesting, I hadn't seen that blade style before. Thanks for posting.

Emerson has patented the wave, but has allowed other companies to include it in their designs.

The knife in the video is made by Spyderco.

Folks who have strict laws like California should buy them quick, it will only be a matter of time before the technology becomes illegal.

Be careful if you buy one, as you can see, they are deployed as they are drawn… all kinds of nasty things can happen if you’re not paying attention.

Most companies make training knives to solve this problem, they are replicas of the originals, but have red handles and dull blades.

I collect knives and have a number of automatics, but my Spyderco Police model can be deployed without the thumb-hole in the blink of an eye by just a flick my wrist.  With it's 4" serrated blade, I'm not sure there's much to improve on.  -But it's alway fun to see the new stuff.
