Fatcat quiet baffle
« on: March 01, 2008, 12:11:32 PM »

Just had Fatcat with quiet baffle installed (supposedly).  Dealer did not seem aware of new baffle when I requested it, but when I insisted that it was out he later said that they now came standard with it.  My question is how can you identify the quiet baffle by looking up the pipe?  Would any of the packing be visible though the louver holes of the baffle?  Not a big deal, cause I really like the pipe...I'm just curious if I got what I ordered.

Quite baffle is wrapped on the outside of baffle with fiberglass. Can you see any fibers?

No fibers visible....methinks I may need to call D&D and verify with them!

This is the quiet performance baffle...  No fibers are visable...

Called D&D today.  Apparently sometimes fibers are visible, othertimes not.  Only way to tell for sure is to remove the baffle. Tech said that it would be a b***h getting it out/in if it is a QB!  I'll save that task for another time. :drink:

Latest update.....after approx. 1/2 can of WD 40 and 50-75 whacks on a board, I finally got the b***h ( I mean baffle ) out.  Yep!  Regular baffle instead of requested QB  >:(  NOT impressed with my soon to be ex-shop!  Now have QB on order directly from D&D.  Lack of attention to detail may explain why my dyno #s weren't so hot!  I'll have another..... :drink:

Selling dealer wouldn't correct their mistake and supply what you'd requested and paid for?  Or did you just blow them off and figure it wasn't worth the hassle dealing with them anymore?

In any case too bad they didn't get it right the first time.  Good luck on getting it the way you want it and running well.

They want to charge another 40.00 b/c the QB is more expensive.  Primary supplier (Custom Chrome) supposedly won't take care of mistake and shop says he was already giving me a discount on package.  I'll challenge it, but he loses big time without my repeat business and definitely no referrals.  Stepping over dollars to pick up dimes!

When you reinstall the quiet baffle, don't worry about getting the bolt hole lined up. Just make sure to get it down to the right depth, then you can drill a new hole in the baffle for the bolt.

I hit mine on the first try.........but I think that was pure luck.

You'll like the quiet baffle.......it's a great sound.

unless things have changed, the quiet baffle is only available through d and d. ams helped me once with a overnite order because they just happened to have a fatcat, and went to d and d and picked up a quiet baffle, installed it and shipped overnite!, but custom chrome should not be to blame, as to my knowledge, they only off the standard.

OK....Quiet baffle installed...def not quiet, but not as bad as std.  Latest strange thing...funky smell while riding!  Kind of like a synthetic material burning.  No smoke, inside of pipe looks fine, not noticeable standing still at idle.  The baffle was wrapped in a yellowish heavy tape-like material and I installed as is.  Maybe this is burning off?   I hope I wasn't supposed to remove that cover prior to install......that would be like insertion of a suppository without removing the wrapper!    Was I supposed to remove the wrapper?
