Does anyone buy into Conspiracy thoeries?
« on: March 02, 2008, 10:56:52 PM »

In General I can not except most (and maybe all) Conspiracy theories.  The most recent controversial theory involved 911 and how the government was involved.

I think that most people overestimate the Government's efficiency (ability)  and the real issue  is,  if more than one person is involved, the ability to keep that a secret is inverse and logarithmically proportion to amount of people involved.

Sometimes fun to through out, but seldom have any basis other than a good story.

I think that people who believes in Conspiracy Theories are all part of a Government Cover Up.

Oh yes, just ask Mohammed Al Fayed about the Royal Family Plot to kill Diana and stop her marrying a muslim, it's priceless.

I think between the definite cases of conspiracy that get exposed in the media, and the many novels and movies that have conspiracies as their central theme, we have been conditioned to suspect the worst.  It seems natural to look at a situation, see who benefits from it, and then assume that the folks reaping the benefits were involved in a conspiracy to create the situation.  For instance, the 9/11 attacks led to the administration's ability to coerce cooperation from Congress on economic, political, and military options that would have otherwise been stalemated.  Those same attacks also benefited the various companies supplying the war effort, so some folks point to that and hypothesize a conspiracy between the war mongers in government and those companies.  As noted earlier, with the large number of people that would be involved in such a conspiracy it would be highly unlikely it could be kept quiet.  But there is always that little bit of doubt. :nervous:

One thing that I truly believe is that our system of government has become stagnant, with true change only possible as a reaction to crisis (for instance, without 9/11, do you really think Congress would have gone along with the administration's assault on privacy?).  There are many in government who also believe this crisis theory, and it is not totally far fetched to believe that some group or groups would create economic or political havoc to advance their agenda.  The world is no idyllic place where good automatically triumphs over evil and the majority always does the "right thing".  In my opinion, just the opposite is true.  The world has become a more dangerous and evil place, and healthy skepticism on the part of it's citizens is necessary.

You are involved in a governmental conspiracy to cover up all the people who are, or ever were, involved in governmental conspiracies. And the government knows that you know, that they know, that you know, that they knew, that you knew, that they were covering it up all the time. I'll bet you didn't know that did you?

It's not a theory.  It's fact.  I'm conspiring at this moment to finish reading the unread posts and get back to work.

It's all a big conspiracy to get you to think there's a conspiracy.   ;)

I think there has probably been plenty of conspiracy's, but there's a thin line between that and being paranoid!

I have a friend that lives in the higher elevations by a snowmobile resort.  He can't get out in the winter without his snowmobile.  His Suburban is a couple miles away from his home in a garage.  He's actually a pretty smart guy.  A retired business owner.   He and his "lady" call contrails from jet engines- "chem-trails"!  They think the government is spraying us all with chemicals that cause cancer.  Personally, I think this is absolutely ridiculous, but every once in a while I run into someone who believes the same thing.  -Of course he feels our own government orchestrated the whole 911 deal too.
If you really want to get into the conspiracy type of thinking, do a little research on the "brown dwarf star".

I think I had one of those about an hour ago.   But I have had an upset stomach for a couple of days now....

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that they're not really out to get me.
