95th Anniversary Edition FXDWG
« on: March 03, 2008, 12:01:30 PM »

Just looking.  I've often admired the color scheme of H-D's celebrated 95th Anniversary Motorcycles.  That........and the Evolution motors with which they are fielded.  Found a 1998 95th Anniversary Edition FXDWG.  I've been to visit it twice.  Made in May 1998.  Doggone great shape for a near 10 year old motorcycle.  Paint is awesome.  Heavily chromed.  Could use some new brake pads.  Can't find any evidence of leakage anywhere.  Stage 1 (even the air filter is dry).  SE pipes on stock short dual headers.  Carb.  New Avon tires.  Aftermarket mirrors with integral turn signals.  Appears to have been well maintained.  Has a 95th Anniversary windshield.  Has slight rub marks on it from throttle/idle cables and clutch cable incorrectly routed at one time.  I can easily buff them out.......can't catch a fingernail on 'em.  22K miles.  $13.4K.  Seems "high" to me.  What do you guys think?

I had a 1998 Fat Boy Aniv. & I still think that was the nicest colour combo. The evo's weren't a power house but dependable. A Wide Glide like you decribed sold for $13,000.00 CD up here just before Christmas. I didn't see it myself but was told that it was mint. Not sure if that helps you out or not.

It helps plenty.........'cept I can't relate CD to USD.  Can you?  If so, please advise.

Like you, that color combo just does it for me.  Really like it.  I bet you miss your 98 FLSTF.  And that Evo......what an amazing engine.  Runs cool, works good, lasts a long time.  Great stuff.  I've oft heard it referred to as "the finest engine H-D ever made."

That would put you at about $12,600 USD. keep in mind we also have 13% tx. But I'll tell you I don't mind paying a price that in my own mind is reasonable. I say if you like it , gofor it & have fun.If it wasn't for the fact that insurance up here is close to triple what it costs in the States I'd have at least one bike like that as well. Send some pics if you pick it up. :2vrolijk_21:

I'll have a 95th anniversary edition Fat Boy for sale this spring.  11,000 easy miles, many extras.  Will likely be listed for about $10K in the central part of the US.

Absolutely correct., But late last fall when this bike was sold there was about a 6cent differance in favour of the USD.

Love that paint scheme, too, Henry.  It looks good on everything they put it on that year.  The price seems sorta steep to me given the mileage, but at the same time, if it's as clean as it sounds and it's what you've been looking for, you have to ask yourself how many nice ones are you going to run across like that with the age creeping up on them?

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.  Don't forget pictures if you get it! ;)

What's it worth ?  I think other than "which Carb" back in the carb days, this is the question with the most answers. At the end of the day what it's worth is best decided by coming up with a figure you'd like to pay for it and subtracting that from the asking price and then asking yourself if the difference is so great you will be ok one, two, five years from now if you don't pay that difference and you really want the bike. Say the difference is two thousand dollars. Basically in five years you will have passed on a bike you really would like to have for four hundred dollars a year. You decide if you can or can't live with that.

Everyone knows that when you trade in your bike at a dealer you loose your shirt, but we were offered $7,000 for our 1998 95th anniversary road king.  The most they would offer, and they did not even look at it.  As for the nicest color combination, on the wide glide, it really is nice.  On the road king, the only place that the champagne pearl was used was the underside of the tank.  The rest of the bike was the midnight rose.  You will love the bike Henry.

Thanks, Candy.  It is a pretty machine........but right now, it is a pretty big "if" as opposed to "when."  After all, it is 1000 miles away from me right now.  Lotsa stuff has to come together to make it happen.  If it does, it does.  If not......there will be others.   :2vrolijk_21:

Henry

NADA say's it's a 5500 to 7300 dollar bike with a 10 to 30% increase for upgrades.
Good luck.
Just remember the economy sucks, people are losing jobs, sales are slow.
Don't let him do you a favor by selling you the bike.

Henry,  I know you are pretty handy with tools and have that great lift ............ um, I mean, Thumper is off it now right?  Just kidding.  But as current a model as you and I both feel this bike is, Until a week ago, our local service department had a rule about servicing a bike 10 years or older ----- as in they won't.  Funny to me how fast that 10 years went, but that is life in general isn't it.  Our road king is a fantastic ride. No, it is no power house, yes it could be, but it isn't. But when we ride it, it is pure pleasure.  Keep us filled in on your pursuit.  I mean, now you are only kicking tires, but we've just seen 103tHunDer buy a couple of CVO bikes off just thinking, and Twolanerider too.  Heck, there have been a whole lotta folks buy a second and a third CVO bike off just thinking.  Not that the 95th anniversary is any where near CVO, it is still pretty special.

At least, I like to think so.

Candy, I make no claims to anything........other than that to which my name is affixed by title, deed, or degree, and that I am fortunate to have a wonderful family.........but I'm "pretty handy" if I may say so myself.  Yes.  Thumper is on her own two tires...........and jiffy stand.  I know you're kidding.   :)
Not really too awful worried about the motor company, it's franchises, and their service departments.  Those days are way long gone for me.  The 1998 bikes have piqued my sweet tooth for quite some time.  I saw one I like when I was up north.  Will I get it?  Well...........too early to tell.  I'm not "actively" pursuing the motorcycle if that is what you mean.  If it is there upon my return, perhaps......but there is plenty which much come together to enable the acquisition, and quite frankly........I'm not REALLY motivated enough to make it all happen.  The price is just WAAAAAY too high.  I already have two motorcycles and barely enough time to ride one.  I look at it this way:  if it feels right, then I'll move.......but not before.  I'm in no hurry, and I certainly have no need.  We'll see.

But it is a damn pretty machine........... :)
