Or the new S&S inner sleeve which has a taper that prevents it from walking into the quad seal. I tried the baker bearing but like the S&S setup better.

If there are any signs os weepage, yes. Also check the mainshaft  / primary inner bearing race, there should be .100" between it and the 5th gear seal. If there is not the race has walked inward (happens very often). This will require it to be cut off and should be replaced with a Baker one peice bearing.

Or the new S&S inner sleeve which has a taper that prevents it from walking into the quad seal. I tried the baker bearing but like the S&S setup better.

Vern said there is NO leak at the main shaft and the race is exactly where it belongs. He said there was no need to pull that apart right now. He's replacing the shifter shaft seal with the Cometic as I asked him to. But he said that if it was a shaft seal leak, there should be some evidence of Red (Shockproof Heavy) in the residue, which there is not. He said that location, and on the inner primary as well, is where you'd typically see deposits over time from the drive belt wear. No argument about replacing the seal at all, and agrees that now's the time since it's real simple to do right now. Thanks for the help, suggestions, and keen eyes! :2vrolijk_21:

Have not seen this yet.  Looked on the S&S website but didn't find it.  Got a part number to help the search a bit?

50TH ANNIVERSARY
Exclusive S&S® Inner Primary Bearing Race!
Any Job Is Easy With The Right Tools!
High performance power trains take a serious beating.
That means that they require more frequent service.
Time is money, and in order to allow you to make
better use of your valuable time, S&S offers some new
tools for clutch and primary installation. First there
is a primary inner bearing race installation tool, with a
radial thrust bearing that decreases the effort required
to install a bearing race by 30%. Then there is the
new S&S Clutch Puller that is specifically designed to
remove an S&S high performance clutch. This is also
helpful when removing a stock clutch from a damaged
mainshaft. Finally there is an attachment for the S&S
Clutch Puller that allows easy removal of the primary
inner bearing race.
All of these S&S tools are CNC machined from the
finest 4140 tool steel and heat treated for maximum
reliability and service life.

The Race Is On... Or Off!
Saving You a Lot of Money and Trouble!
High performance applications often reveal problems with
stock power train components that were never anticipated
by the designers. One such problem is the tendency of the
stock inner primary bearing race on late model big twins to
shift on the transmission mainshaft under high torque loads.
This “walking” of the race can result in the destruction of the
transmission mainshaft seal and ultimately the output gear.
The result: costly repairs and annoying down time.
But not to worry! S&S has an elegantly simple, and totally
effective solution to this problem. A unique modification
to the design of the mainshaft inner primary bearing race,
positively prevents it from "walking" into the mainshaft seal
and output gear. The S&S bearing race features an extra step
on the inside diameter that acts as a stop on the transmission
mainshaft. When the race is pressed on to the shaft, the step
will not allow the race to move inward toward the mainshaft
seal. The improved S&S bearing race is a must for any high
performance application. It is included as a part of all S&S
high performance clutch kits, and can be retrofitted to stock
and aftermarket transmissions for all 1991-'05 big twins, and
2006 Harley-Davidson® Softail® models.

It appears that this is only good to '05's on FLH's. Not sure if there's anything more current. ;)

Yeah, their site is a PIA to navigate, but I've gotten used to it and can finally locate stuff there. It took awhile to get used to though! :nixweiss:

I've had the same thought about their site a couple of times before.  That "catalog" layout forces you to be familiar with it to use it.  Got the number for the race.  My second to last Road King had that race walk.  It's engine didn't have the torque the red bike's does. But it had been jacked up a little.  Given the occasional incidents you hear of with that race it was something I'd thought of for the SEEG.  Will go ahead and order one of that race to have on hand.  Then some rainy or cold weekend when the primary needs to be off for something anyway will go ahead and change it.

I had my race split and of course it walked in, leaked oil chewed up the high gear etc. Then I replaced it with the baker bearing but anytime you wanted to replace the seal it's a special item since I had several of them leak. I then put on the S&S race but just used the mainshaft nut and a spacer to Press it on with 50 pounds of torque, no problems since. I did get the puller set from S&S but haven't used it yet. By the way the S&S clutch is much better than the pro clutch totally happy with it and holds the 127" no problem but now of course broke the counter shaft retainer in my Baker DD6 something always has to "Give"

That's an excellent post CB! Great info there! I guess I'll just wait til I split it to replace it. Vern said everything is where it belongs and doesn't see the need to replace it right now. So I'll defer to his judgement. And I hear ya loud and clear as to the next weak link in the chain! Believe me, I hear ya! That's one reason I'm building a detuned 110 instead of a monster!!! Appreciate all the info! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Hey CB, lookin good man! Not quite the typical day at my office though! ;)

Everything is settled with Feuling. Waiting for the rest of the engine parts. Swingarm's done. Neck bearings, Traxxion service, and front end back together. Just waitin on the motor now to get built and put back in. Hopefully it'll be built by the end of the month or so. He's been concentrating on the Rigid right now, so he can get all the welding done and send it for powdercoating. Then he'll go back to Cybil's motor and finish her up. I expect her back by the end of Feb latest! Thanks for asking! :2vrolijk_21:

Basically I'm a lazy bastard when it comes to digging through threads for information, so would you indulge me and post all of the things you've done to Cybil on one post please ?  I say I'm not buying a new 09 SERG this year, but as Beagle would tell you when it comes to me and motorcycles, don't believe a word I say about buying, selling and modifying them. It's a sickness and I can't help myself. Anyway, I'm thinking a lot of othe folks with 110's might enjoy seeing everything you've done listed in one cohesive post.

Thanks

HeHe!!! You're right B B! This thread got too big now. That's OK though. When she's done, I'll be starting a Cybil III thread specifically detailing the build this go-round. I just hope I'm not starting a Cybil Thread every season!!! ;)

Since you asked, the cams are in now. Which means all the engine parts are in. The engine starts going back together on Mon. Hopefully Cybil will be rolling out of the shop in her 3rd life by the end of the month. This season's show's nearing its last episode. Stay tuned for Cybil III coming soon to a SERK Thread near you!!! ::) :D :D :D ;)
