« on: March 14, 2008, 10:06:27 PM »

Just 2 weeks old and the head wrench says they felt fine when she did the RT??? Anyone have a similar feel? After 1 pump they firm up and feel like I would expect-

Welcome to the site.  Someone with  an 08 will chime in and give you some Brembo ABS feedback.  I'm just not one of them.

Sounds like what you get with automobile ABS.

I have the exact same feeling on my 08 Ultra.  Just had the 1,000 mile service completed and one of the stores best tech's said they were fine.  They definitley work, as I have tested them on my occassions.  Great safety feature.

My front brake was losing hand pressure when held closed. The dealer had to hook up a special ABS computer bleeder to correct and bleed the system. Yes you heard this right. ABS brakes require a special computerized systems to bleed and adjust the system. Thank god it was a warranty issue..

All ABS systems I'm aware of, auto & bike, require special procedures to bleed the ABS pump (that doohickey under the right side cover).  The procedure involves using the new Digital Technician II to operate the pump and valves while bleeding the system.

I spent a lot of years in auto assembly plants, and for many of those years drove a different vehicle home every night for quality evaluation.  When ABS became standard, I noticed a difference in brake pedal feel, a slightly softer feel with slightly more travel.  However, I also noted quite a bit of variation from one vehicle to another.  It appeared that even with the evacuate and fill system we used (automated equipment pulls a vacuum on the system and then pumps fluid into it under pressure), air was being trapped in the ABS pump on some units.  When those units were bled properly in the repair bay, pedal feel was improved to the point of being very close to that of a non-ABS unit.  The point of all this rambling is that I would recommend anyone who has the new ABS and excessive travel or softness at the lever have the dealer perform the ABS specific bleeding procedure outlined in the manual.  Make sure you watch the process, and if they don't hook up the Digital Tech computer, they aren't doing it correctly and it won't help the issue.

What you are feeling may or may not be normal for an ABS equipped model, and unless you are such an optimist that you really believe H-D would never ship a bike out the door with a problem, having the brake system properly bled would be a quick and painless process that any halfway decent dealership should be happy to perform if for no other reason than to give you peace of mind.

I have a brand new CUSE3 on the road and my brakes feels OK.
No strange feedback from either front or rear.

I have an 08 UC SE and my front brakes also feel better after I pump them once. I have gotten used to it, but I am going to mention it to the dealer at my 5K service.

ABS brakes - be it on a car or bike (well - I know about BMW's not Harley's) but when ABS brakes are properly adjusted - they feel just like normal brakes till the ABS is activated!

The two test '08's I rode felt like any other ABS equipped bike - NORMAL....

Just one more reason to give them a little time to get these ABS brakes normal...

The ABS brakes on my 08 SEUC feel just like the non-ABS brakes that I had on my 02 Ultra.  No problems.  The ABS works great too.

08 SEUC brakes feel just like my 05 heritage did, so far as I can tell.

Only had abs kick in once, on the rear, loud click and the pedal snapped at my foot.  I wasn't even braking that hard, but maybe there was some grease on the road.

Been quite awhile since this thread was started. Folks have had time to get used to ABS and as we all know, the 09's CVO's come with ABS. I'd be interested to read some updated comments on this subject
