THIS IS COOL!
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:00:50 AM »

I think it's cool that we have had a lot of new action in the SERG thrread. Betweed Chip, 103 and 2Ln all getting new bikes recently, there's beeen a lot to talk. Thank You boys, I always enjoy it!  :2vrolijk_21:

On another note, my bike is back togather and doing great. Scooter and I went out Wed. afternoon for a ride and hit a few of our favorite watering holes and had a great time. Great day, sunny and about 65 degrees.

Scooter put a new front motor mount on my SERG yesterday. The new mount, with the new design, really took a lot of the shake (at idle) out of the bike.

Here is a pic from Wed afternoon. I took the picture a little too soon, he was just starting to let some of the smoke out of the rear tire.  :)

I'd noticed a bit of shake at idle on the red one too.  But anything above idle is as smooth as could be.  It's not huge at idle.  But it's more than I expected relative to the how the engine otherwise felt and sounded.  Motor mount isn't broken though (first think I looked at).

Which mount did you use Cary?  I was probably just to grab a Velva mount at some time.  Since this one wasn't broken wasn't in too much of a hurry though.

Don the Velva ride is urethane and is almost a solid mount. Look at the TrueTrack one. I have the VR on my Pro Street and it's stiff. OK on that bike, but didn't want that on my Road Bike. Just a thought to ponder. ;)

Yeap.  Didn't mean to imply that the Velva mount would take out any shake.  Just that if the OE mount had begun to deteriorate that's what I'd likely replace it with.  Have used several of them over the years and they're good stuff.  Really like their links too.  Will have to go look at True Track's front motor mount.  Don't want to hijaak Cary's Road Glide thread with umpteen different motor mount options though.  So....

Cary, notice what kinds of difference after the cam change?  Road Glide sound much different with the gear drives?  Feel much different with the new cams?

Don, mine wasn't broken, just seemed to have a lot of play. Used H-D part # 16207-79D. It made quite a difference.

Thanks Cary.  Will note the supercession # in the manual.   I remember when the "B" came out just a couple of years ago.  Way too hard.  Then the "C" was quickly released and the talk subsided.  Didn't even know that a "D" had been released since then to (probably) even further fine tune the compound.

We didn't change the cams (still stock) and the chains were OK also, just oil pump, cam bearings and tensioners, so no change in performance. I just didn't have the money to do new cams and gear drives. We are not in a recession, just keep saying that!

Don-

I've got a brand new True Track front mount if you want to try it.  (bought it with the True Track rear  stabilizer and never installed).   Installed the Velva instead for the front mount.

Ok, I got it now.  That's great though.  Means you didn't have to screw with retuning anything.  Take it apart, put it together and keep right on going.  I'm a big fan of simplest solutions when you can do them.

I know you said before.  But how many miles on the tensioners when they came out?

Don't know anything about them Bob.  Will do my homework.  How much you want for it?

Well actually when stating the date for the military I would say 12 March 08, so that would actually be 12/3/08.

Hmmmm maybe I can get a job as a spin doctor for some aspiring politician  ::)

Thanks Cary.  I want to look at the ones in this red SERG before much time goes by.  20k miles on it but you just never know with those things.

The 2000 model year also had issues with cam bearings during (I think) about the first half of the model year.  Since I've no idea if this beastie is early, late or past due that's another concern.  If the tensioners look ok I'll not do anything right now.  Then try to save a few SERG pennies and hopefully a winter project might be a gear drive conversion.
