motor mods on my 08 springer
« on: March 16, 2008, 09:25:00 AM »

hello,my name is krank and i am a springerholic! this is my first post even though i have been reading the board for a while.last summer i installed v&h sideshots and the fuel pack, a nice difference from stock. free winter storage from my dealer had guilted me into chrome cover package for all bolt covers and ( my idea ) a chrome swingarm.the bike was set to be returned in a few weeks but i could not leave well enough alone so..... new plugs, race tuner, oil cooler, woodcarbs tw400g cam and high comp pistons all to be dyno tuned before i hit the streets this spring(if spring ever comes).so i ask , brothers and sisters what kind of numbers should i expect from this set up? i will post photos when the bike comes home.

the chrome work was about $1100.00 for everything and i got free storage for that. as far as the torque and horses go i would be pleased with around 120 for each. thanks for the input and did i mention this is a great discussion board to be a part of!

krank, I bet the anticipation is killing you. I will be looking forward to some pictures of your bike with the chrome swingarm. I am interested in how it changes the appearance of your bike. I am also looking forward to hearing about the outcome of your dyno results...sounds like a winner! Congratulations on the new CVO Springer!

I have been told the woods gear drive cams are not good in the new cam plates, due to valve train vibrations. any comments?

dont know about any incompatabilitys with woods cams and the new cam plate. bobby wood recommends the oem plate!

as far as the belt drive, the inner gear are the same as any other belt drive and use the oem plate.

heres one i did.

Do you like it, was it worth the bucks?

that bike was for a project i did for someone. started with stock 103 cvo, and fatcat with tmax . had professional rider (at 150 lbs.) we took it to track, then dynoed. made mods, track, dyno, repeat. after headwork and cams, it ran 7.40 1/8 mile and 12.2 1/4. 60 ft was 1.5's!!!!  IIRC bike made 117 tq/ 105 hp.

used the belt drive for the ability to advance/retard cam in less than 2 minutes. for that, it is great, draws lots of attention and cool factor is way up.

cons, ----price, pipe clearance, proprietary cams (2 rear grinds).
