Painter for Hard Bags Needed
« on: March 16, 2008, 01:18:41 PM »

Had to lay down my Black Ice SERK in a curve little over a week ago to avoid hitting deer on the road. Bike slid off the road and flipped. Came out with only a few stitches and some bad bruises. Bent the frame on the bike where the engine guard bolts to it on top. Total to get bike fixed is $10,000. My insurance company approved the repairs Friday.
I plan on having my dealer order hard bags to put back on the bike instead of the leather bags. I am looking for names and phone numbers of painters some of you have used to get hard bags painted. Any help would be appreciated.

how is the Rose Capital?

cannot help you with he Painter though and I am not saying you did not do the right thing dumping the Bike,

I just have a real hard time convincing myself that I want to get my fat ass off of the seat. Not many good things ever happened to me getting off of the

seat, so a deer would probably not motivate me unless it was huge!

Kodiak,

I would also recommend Paint By Gene.  He has helped me with boo boo's in the past including touching up decals that are not avaialble from the MoCo.

What do ya mean "even Hoist" Rog! I didn't just use him, I was only the second one here to use him, after you confirmed his excellent reputation. Then I set out to make him infamous here! ??? ;D

But I seriously can't say enough good things about him either. He goes out of his way. I'm extremely happy with the job he did on my hard bags. And he's matching that on my KTP right now. Should be done with that by month's end! ;)

Gene and his wife Pam a real nice people. We're meeting them in Sturgis summer and I'm looking forward to that! Go to Gene. You can't go wrong! :2vrolijk_21:

:huepfenlol2:  :huepfenlol2:  Well, I thought you might have come up with a more super secret, ultra meticulous, air brush artist from who knows where since you had the entire country to cross to get out here on the left coast to find Gene.

I knew you were very happy as were all those I spoke to regarding his work.

Besides, I have to take any opportunity I can to get a rise out of you :bananarock:

Hope everything turns out ok. I have been down three hard times before with all three total losses. Sounds like you came out on the fair side which is great. I have a custom painter two doors down from my shop and he is great. His name is Kevin Sweeney 717-795-1727 mon-fri. Tell him that Bill from Hellion Custom Cycles sent you and he will take care of you. He has been a friend of mine since 95 and have see his work and used him since then. Amazing work

Uptown Cycle in San Diego is as good as any you'll find anywhere. Many feature bikes in EasyRiders and other pubs, but stock CVO paint shouldn't be a chore for any competant body shop. I'd say this is one of those situations where you can pay more than you need to if you go with a big name painter who's charging for his name more than for the job. My advice - - - - -get several estimates and go with the best choice for the best price. Tony at Uptown didn't charge Beagle a bundle to do a King Tour-pak to match his 05 Cherry Bomb because it wasn't a lot of custom work; mostly just matching the paint correctly and then doing a good job on the hands on part.

Just my $0.02

Thanks guys for all you're advice and help. Dealer told me it might take a couple of weeks or more to get the frame so I've got the bike back here until all the parts come in. Kinda bums me out seeing her sitting in the garage the way she is. I'll give these painters a call. Thanks again

We have a great guy in Tulsa, Ok. He repaired my front fender blended the paint and you can not detect any damage. He is a car guy so his prices are much cheaper than the bike painters. If your interested I can have him call you.
